There are 9 New Testament
Bible verses referring to "the abyss"
which are in the Greek Interlinear Bible.
They are Luke 8:31; Romans 10:7; Rev. 9:1,
2 &11; 11:7, 17:8, 20: 1 &3.
However, in the KJV of the Bible "the
abyss" in Luke 8:31 is called "the deep,"
and "the abyss" is also called "the deep"
in Romans 10:7.
If you recall according to
Luke 8:31, the demons did not want Jesus
to send them to "the deep" (abyss) so they
asked him if they could enter into the
swine nearby. So the abyss is
somewhere they expected to go at some
point in time. Will the demons be sent to
the abyss when Satan is locked up there
during the Millenium so that the demons
like Satan don't interfere with mankind
during that 1,000 year period?
Then
there is a very important Bible verse,
which is Romans 10:7, which says, "Or, Who shall
descend into "the deep"
(the abyss)? (that is, to
bring up Christ again from the
dead.)" So when Christ died, He didn't
descend into hell like we were taught
in the Apostle's Creed, but He
descended into "the abyss." Ephesians
4:9 says, "(Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?" So the abyss is in
the lower parts of the earth.
What is confusing is the fact that in
the Hebrew Interlinear Bible according
to Psalm 16:10 says, "For thou
wilt not leave my
soul in
"Sheol" (which is another name for
"Hades"); neither wilt
thou suffer thine
Holy One to
see corruption,
but in the KJV Bible, it says
"hell."
Based
on the above verses is "the abyss,"
and "Sheol"(Hades) the same place
because it sounds like it?
According to Rev. 1:18, Jesus said,
" I am he
that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I
am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of
hell (Hades) and of
death." Also "the abyss" requires
a key to get into because
Revelation 9:1 says, "And the fifth angel sounded, and I
saw a
star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to
him was
given the key of
the bottomless pit
(the abyss)." And Rev. 20:1
says, "And I
saw an
angel come
down from heaven, having the key of
the bottomless pit (the
abyss) and a
great chain in his hand."
It was to be used to chain
Satan up before casting
him into "the abyss."
In the KJV
Bible verse in Revelation 20:1 which is
called "the bottomless pit", it is
called "the abyss" in the Greek
interlinear Bible, and "the bottomless
pit" in Revelation 9:1 & 2 is called
"the well of the abyss" in the Greek
interlinear Bible.
Then
there are the fallen angels that
according to 2 Peter 2:4 that
were cast down to "hell" (KJV) but in
the Greek interlinear Bible, they are
in "Tartarus." Then there is the king
of "the bottomless pit" (the abyss)
called Apollyon or Abaddon so it
sounds like "the abyss" and "Hades"
and "Tartarus" are all in the same
place or are the same place.
