Hello Kat, John and
Doves,
Also, it's
been 'advertised' over the years as 'a possible
pandemic'.
2022:
2025:
There are no antiviral
medications for this...just try to manage symptoms.
As for the red algae
-
"There is currently no
approved therapeutic for human use against NiV infection."
This publication
reported "significant protection against lethal NiV
challenge in Syrian golden hamsters."
They used Griffithsin
(GRFT) to treat the hamsters. It's extracted from
red algae Griffithsia sp..
This could also work
as a prophylactic treatment as it inhibits the Nipah virus
by blocking entry into cells.
It's been found to be
effective in preventing HIV infection and preventing
infection by other enveloped viruses like hepatitis C
virus, Japanese encephalitis virus, and SARS-CoV.
Thank you, Kat, for
noting the treatment with red algae in your letter.
Seems to be a specific species, but maybe other red algae
have similar proteins too.
But never fear - a
"vaccine" is coming.
This is not an mRNA
vaccine - It uses "a replication-deficient chimpanzee
adenoviral vector, ChAdOx1, which has been engineered to
express the NiV glycoprotein. This protein is crucial for
the virus' ability to enter and infect cells and by
presenting it to the immune system without the presence of
the actual virus, the vaccine primes the body to recognize
and fight off the real pathogen upon exposure.
Preclinical studies have demonstrated the vaccine's
efficacy." This vaccine has been shown effective in
African green monkeys and Syrian hamsters. This
vaccine is considered cost effective and easy to produce
with a low production cost of approx $5 per dose.
One dose may be all that's needed.
The
science behind Nipah vaccine: How ChAdOx1 NipahB vaccine
works - India Today
Moderna is(was?)
testing a mRNA Nipah virus "vaccine". I'm not seeing
much 'movement' on this vaccine. And no study
results have been posted on clinical trials.
I would prefer more
research on the red algae proteins - as prophylactics to
disease than yet another vaccine.
Thank you for the
information on the red algae, Kat.
Something is
in the works, no doubt.
Blessings,
Chance
