In your letter to chance last week, https://www.fivedoves.com/letters/july2023/ear716-2.htm, you had written:
Chance, you seem to think that Jesus—when He returns at His Second Coming—needs to be anointed by some mere human, but I certainly don’t think that! My reading of Daniel 7:9–10, 13–14; Matt. 26:63–64; Acts 7:55–56; Rev. 1:10–18, 5:5–14; 19:11–16, tells me that He will return as a victorious and conquering KING, to rule and reign with a rod of iron during the millennium (Isaiah 11:1–4; Rev. 2:27; 12:5; 19:15). He certainly won’t need anyone’s permission to do so, or wait for a blessing from anyone on earth! Jesus doesn’t need any further anointing … not from me, you, or anyone else… Next time, He is coming as King, not as a sacrifice! He is returning as the anointed King… And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. (Rev. 19:16)
That is a good point, that Jesus doesn't require permission or a blessing from anyone on earth. In a similar, but a much less critical consideration, David was anointed:
I Samuel 16:13a Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward.
That anointing of David was the most significant.Yet, then, later:
II Samuel 2:4a And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah.
And even 7½ years after that:
II Samuel 5:3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king over Israel.
So, could those two subsequent times that David was anointed, been more for their benefit, than for David?David didn't require those other two, since he was anointed of God:
II Samuel 23:1 Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said,
In a similar manner, when Jesus returns, if he allows Israel to anoint him, could it possibly be for their benefit, their blessing?
