"Reply to Antisemitism "

At http://www.fivedoves.com/letters/aug2014/pastorbob83-4.htm , someone tried to argue that...

  • Jews aren't really Jews
  • They did not descend from Abraham, therefore they are invalid.
  • First off, the Khazarian origin of all modern Jews is a theory that has been debunked by many and it is sad that some people are still trying to promote this.  http://www.thetruthseeker.co.uk/?p=95771 discusses TWELVE DNA studies that debunk this anti-semitic propganda.  But it is not the biggest part of what is wrong with that theory anyway.

Ruth did not descend from Abraham, yet she is the maternal ancestor of the Messiah.  She was a Gentile Moabite who joined into Israel.  Yet Scripture clearly accepts her as a "Jew".  There are indeed many people alive today who practice Judaism and descended from Abraham that are Sephardic, Ashkenazi, as well as among other mixes of non-European Jews (since Sephardic vs Ashkenazi only defines Western vs Eastern European descent of Jewish ancestry).  Europe is not all there is.  Jerusalem has had Jews living there since first century AD.  There is no shortage of people within Israel who either descended from Abraham or descended from someone like Ruth, who chose to join Israel and has been accepted by God as Jewish by choice.  Yes, there are a mixture of races in Israel, but the Bible tells us a "mixed multitude" came out of Egypt.

God clearly established Israel as a nation.  He brought it about as a miracle.  And to claim that those living there aren't really Jewish is to deny the miracle God performed.  Without Israel, there is no end times.  If the people there are imposters, as Pastor Bob alleged, then we are a long way from the return of the Messiah because Revelation clearly talks about Israel being part of End Times events, and He'll have to straighten that out before His return.

We should be rejoicing at the miracles God performed, and He indeed performed one in re-establishing Israel.  We don't need to send mental excrement on top of what God has done.  We can safely say that Israel is legitimate because God brought it about as a miracle.  That's all the proof we need.

"Sephardic" is a term for Jews who dominated Western Europe (Spain, France, Italy, etc), while "Ashkenazi" refers to Jews of Eastern Europe.    Neither label really applies to Jews in the Mid-East (many of whom call themselves "Mizrahi") or those from Africa, the Orient, or many other places.  These two sects are not the only two in existance, just the main two within Europe, though some European sects belong to neither.

    Shalom,

    Joe
