Muir,In your letter, you mentioned:The first Christians spoke Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic, and Latin but mostly Hebrew. When did the Gentiles, who also believed on Jesus, in Thessalonica, learn Hebrew?Paul was only there a short time, and his first letter to them wasn't too long afterwards. So, was Thessalonica, the capital of the Roman province of Macedonia, a Hebrew speaking city, in addition to Greek speaking?Or did the Jewish believers in Jesus, living in that city, teach Hebrew to the Gentile believers, after Paul left, and before he wrote the epistle? When Paul first preached the gospel to the unbelieving Gentiles, he preached in Greek, like in Athens. But I don't remember where in the book of Acts that Paul then told the new Gentile believers that they needed to, or should, learn to speak and read Hebrew. The book of Acts specifically mentioned Paul speaking Hebrew to the Jews when he was arrested.Paul also mentioned the Hebrew tongue, when telling king Agrippa about what was spoken to him on the road to Damascus.Additionally, there is one epistle called the epistle to the Hebrews. But outside of the title of that epistle, after the book of Acts, the Hebrew tongue is not mentioned again until the book of Revelation. There it is in reference to the name of the king of the bottomless pit, and also to the name of Armageddon. It is possible that this teaching is supported by extra-Biblical sources, and though they are very interesting, they are not the inspired word of God.I have used extra-Biblical information a number of times, and I'm convinced that I wasn't always careful about holding it up, kind of like it was inspired, but it wasn't.Therefore, I shouldn't fault you, but encourage you to be more careful than I have been.I was interested in finding out how you came to the conclusion that you did, but when I clicked on the link, I realized that I needed to buy a book in order to find out.Forgive me if I wrote this in a wrong spirit, I hope that I have not, but the heart is deceitful, after all.You are my brother in Christ, and I do not want to hurt you.Thank you for all the letters that you write to FiveDoves.
