"Neil Oliver. Brilliant!!"

Hi John and Doves,

Neil is rightly angry - as we all are. There is only one thing I disagree with.... people are not spineless. Everyone is waiting for a hero to sort it all out. Life is too busy - too frenetic for ordinary people to devote themselves to marches and protests. Time is limited in our every day lives. Paying the mortgage, feeding the family, purchasing fuel for the car etc. BUT - there is a cut off point where enough is enough.

I watched a documentary last night that resonated with me. I am of the same generation as Princess Diana. She had children the same years I had children. When Diana died, the world truly mourned. It was absolutely devastating. When the queen refused to return to London after Diana's death, the public mood turned ugly. It felt like the royal family had become our enemies. Although rumours that her death was murder, were yet to emerge - the British public were furious at the treatment that the royals had meted out to Diana. All - and I mean ALL - respect for prince Charles was lost. Gone, and never to return. The documentary acknowledged this public mood and found it dark and dangerous. The royals had to act swiftly - time was of the essence. The queen returned to London. The flag was lowered to half-mast at Buckingham Palace (they took their time about that). Then the queen made a steely-eyed speech about how much she had 'admired' Diana. Blah blah. But, it worked. The public mood was placated by the queen's words and presence. Elizabeth 2nd commanded much respect.

My point is that there will be one emotive event that will bring back that public unity. It will be a biggie - it has to be. But it will be one that has the elite absolutely terrified.
