"For godly sorrow worketh repentance"

II Corinthians 7:10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

(Repentance is a change of mind that leads to a change of direction.
A change of mind: “Jesus, you are right and I am wrong”; “Jesus, you are holy, and I am sinful”;
 “Jesus, I didn’t simply do my own thing, but I sinned against you, against your love, against your holiness, against your grace”;
And for us who are already saved, "Jesus, I forsook your fellowship”, “Jesus, I more than want to be forgiven, I want to fellowship with you again”.
Leading to a change of direction:)

Acts 20:21b repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

Acts 26:20b  that they should repent and turn to God,

Isaiah 44:22b  return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.

Jeremiah 3:22a Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings.

(Jesus wants to bring us back into fellowship with him:)

Luke 15:4 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?
  5 And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
  6 And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.
  7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

(That scripture, first looked at, above, tells us: “For godly sorrow worketh repentance”.
True repentance comes from godly sorrow.   So, what is godly sorrow?    What is godly?)

II Corinthians 7:9a Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner,

II Corinthians 7:11a For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves,

(godly – to be like God)
