Since the astronomical new moon is at 12:52 AM UTC on September 7th, how can Rosh Hashanah on the evening of September 6th?  I read something years ago that said the Hebrew calendar would be tweaked so that Yom Kippur would not fall on Friday or Sunday.  If so, that probably explains the early start of Rosh Hashanah this year.
