The Key Which Unlocks Daniel’s Confirmed Covenant

By Greg Wilson

Two Confirmed Covenants - Two Kingdoms

For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise. Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai (Jacob), which gendereth to bondage (the law), which is Agar [and one from Christ which issues from the righteousness of faith in Christ]. (Galatians 4:22-24 [with my addition]) In this case, allegory is the expression by means of symbolic figures of the truthfulness of the two covenants. The first covenant of the law which leads to death and the second covenant in Christ which leads to righteousness in Christ and everlasting life.  He taketh away the first [covenant] that he may establish the second [covenant]. (Hebrews 10:9-1 with [my additions] Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise born of faith, born of Christ. But as then he [Jacob] that was born after the flesh (physical) persecuted him that was born after the Spirit [Church] (spiritual), even so it is now. (Galatians 4:28-29)  The two covenants are distinguished by (1) Abraham’s belief [faith] in God’s promised son (Isaac) and Abraham’s imputed righteousness, and (2) Abraham’s grandson, Jacob [Israel], who being in bondage under the law having rejected Christ, will appear as remnant Israel and will begin to receive Abraham’s physical promises during Daniel’s 70th culminating at the Second Advent of Christ. And so, all remnant Israel shall be saved at the Second Advent of Christ. (Romans 9:6, 27; 11:27-28; Isaiah 10:21-22; Zechariah 12:10)  Isaiah says that “the remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, until mighty God. (Isaiah 10:21) Then continuing in verse 22 he says: “For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness. This consumption occurs in Daniel 9:27 where Daniel says, “even until the consumption” decreed in Isaiah 10:22.  Then, at the Second Advent, Christ brings in everlasting righteousness as confirmed in Daniel 9:24.

These two covenants are associated with in two kingdoms: (1) the kingdom of God which represents God’s spiritual realm with Christ seated at the right hand of God the Father and the Holy Spirit indwelling believers (Mark 16:19; Hebrews 8:1); and (2) the kingdom of heaven which represents the physical universe, with the earthly portion of the kingdom of heaven termed the “kingdom of this world” being ruled by Satan. (Matthew 4:8, Luke 4:5-6; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Ephesians 6)

We see the spiritual kingdom in Jesus’ words: “Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you (the Jewish nation) and given to a nation (Gentiles) bringing forth the fruits thereof.” (Matthew 21:43; Deuteronomy 32:21) This spiritual kingdom of God makes known the riches of the His glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory”. (Colossians 1:27)  Those who have received Jesus as God’s Son Savior possess the kingdom of God, albeit in mystery form, which is Christ indwelt in all believers.

Daniel 9:26   And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

The confirmed covenant of verse 26 is the spiritual portion of the Abrahamic covenant confirmed following Abraham’s obedient offering of Isaac’s life upon a sacrificial alter to God. (Genesis 22:16-17, 1 Chronicles 16:16-17; Psalm 105:9-10) This allegory was a symbolic prophecy of God’s future offering of His own Son, Yeshua/Jesus to God as an atoning self-sacrifice for all sin, once for all. (Hebrews 9:26-28, 10:9-10; Isaiah 53:8; John 11:50)

Additionally, there is another covenant associated with verse 26. It was the “oath” sworn by the LORD in the Psalms that he (Jesus) would be a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. (Psalm 110:4; Hebrews 7:21, 28; Galatians 3:14)  Remember, Jesus is called the Son of David. David was a prophet, priest and a king. (Acts 2:30; 2 Chronicles 3:1; 2 Samuel 24)

That the same LORD sitting at the right hand of the Father would strike through kings in the day of his wrath. (Psalm 104:5 referring to Daniel 9:27)   This divine priesthood began with Jesus’ atoning death and resurrection described in verse 26 above where he was cut off, but not for himself, but for the forgiveness of sins commencing the ministry of reconciliation.(2 Corinthians 5:19-21)

This divine priesthood was a promise upon the oath of God. It was a confirmed covenant.  Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers: And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess to thee among the Gentiles and sing unto thy name. And again, he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people. And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people. And again, Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust. Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.  (Romans 15:8-13)

So, the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. (Galatians 3:14)

The spiritual portion of the Abrahamic covenant was fulfilled in Christ’s obedience to the law and His atoning self-sacrifice for the sins of the world.  The spiritual promises flow from Abraham to Isaac and his seed which is Christ. (Galatians 3:16-17)   Now, in chapter 3 of Galatians, Paul tells us that God’s confirmation of the covenant of the law (Jacob) through Christ’s obedience cannot disannul God’s confirmed covenant to Abraham, the physical blessings of the coming Kingdom rule by Christ.  There will be a physical kingdom in the future where Jacob and the world will be ruled by Christ, King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

In Daniel 9:27 we see the confirming of the next covenant which deals with the physical nation of Jacob (Israel).  This physical nation of Israel will be restored to God during Daniel’s 70th week.  The remnant believers in Christ, during Daniel’s 70th week will have the testimony and faith of Jesus. (Revelation 12:17, 14:12, 20:4-5)  This remnant nation will be saved. (Isaiah 59:21; Romans 11:26-27, 9:27)  At the Second Advent, this salvation will include both the physical and spiritual aspects of the Abrahamic covenant to the nation of Israel, the remnant nation which will have had the testimony and faith of Yeshua/Jesus.  They finally get right with God Most High!

Daniel 9:27   And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

This covenant, which will be confirmed, is comprised of the unfulfilled Abrahamic promises.  Some of these are listed below. These are the promises addressed by Paul in Galatians 3.  Remember, Paul said that they were not annulled meaning they will be fulfilled.  Presently, they have been suspended during this age of faith based grace.  This age of grace will end with the resurrection/rapture event at the “fullness of the Gentiles”. During this age, the nation of Jacob (Israel) has been mysteriously blinded.  Paul says their blindness is another mystery. (Romans 11:25)

Paul’s Roadmap to Daniel’s Confirmed Covenant

Take out your Bibles and read Romans 11:26 and 27.  These two verses unlock Daniel’s verse 27 covenant.  These two verses are Paul’s interpretation of Isaiah 59:20 and 21.  Paul cites Isaiah’s prophecy, but he changes some key words! Now, Paul is interpreting Isaiah’s prophecy in the context of the Second Advent of Christ. He is the key.  This key can only fit Daniel 9:27.

If you were to compare Daniel 9 with Isaiah 59 you will discover that they are parallel chapters.   Paul unlocks “the confirmed covenant” of Daniel 9:27.  Here is the reasoning pathway:

Romans 11:25-28:

25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:  (This is Isaiah 59:20 restated with an alteration)

27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.  (This is Isaiah 59:21 with an alteration)

28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the father's sakes.  (Paul confirms the restoration of remnant Israel and God’s reason for confirming the fathers’ (Abraham, Isaac and Jacob) promises upon oath.)

Commentary:  This is Paul’s alteration of Isaiah 59:20-21.  Look at the underlined phrases above.  Verse 26 says a “Deliverer” will come for Israel (Jacob).  Now look at the parallel Isaiah verses below.  Do you see that Paul switched out the word “Redeemer” and replaced it with “Deliverer”?   Paul is making a second coming prophecy out of Isaiah’s first coming prophecy of Christ as Redeemer.  Paul makes the Redeemer the Deliverer at the Second Coming.

Isaiah 59:20-21:

20 And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the Lord.

21 As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the Lord; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed's seed, saith the Lord, from henceforth and for ever.

Commentary:  Now, look at Daniel’s prophecy below which I repeat for ease of reading.  The Messiah being cut off in verse 26 is the Redeemer prophesied by Isaiah.  He, Jesus, has redeemed all who would believe that He has taken away their sins. These believers have been sealed with the Holy Spirit. (2 Corinthians 1:21-22)  They have been given spiritual lives in Christ and have received the Kingdom of God in mystery form.  They await the physical redemption at the “fullness of the Gentiles”. (1 Corinthians 15:52; 1 Thessalonians 4:17)

But Paul is telling us that a “Deliverer” will come to Israel. This is the Second Advent of Christ the Deliverer of Israel at the end of Daniel’s 70th week.  That is exactly what Joel prophesies in Joel 2:32. He says: “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call.”  The resurrected Deliverer (Yeshua/Jesus) of Daniel 9:26 and Isaiah 59:20 will return to Zion and deliver remnant Israel. (Isaiah 49:7; Psalm 111:9)

Daniel 9:26-27:

26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Commentary:  The resurrected Messiah who is seated at the right hand of the Father in the Kingdom of God has unfinished business with Jacob.  Jacob may have rejected Messiah at His First Advent (verse 26) , but God has a plan for Israel. Remnant Israel will get redeemed, delivered and saved at the Second Advent.  The plan follows his confirmed covenants to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.  Look back up at Romans 11:28.  God is confirming his promises to Jacob because Jacob (Israel) is beloved for the fathers’ sakes.  Jacob is a transgressor (Isaiah 48:8), but God is going to purge out the rebels from Jacob (Israel) during Daniel’s 70th week.  The Lord God will cause Israel to pass under the rod and bring the remnant believing nation “into the bond of the covenant”. (Ezekiel 20:37) A bonded covenant is one subject to God’s oath.  Israel is also going into the furnace of affliction. (Isaiah 48:10) Think back to the allegory of Daniel’s three friends in Nebuchadnezzar’s furnace [of affliction] for refusing to worship the image of Nebuchadnezzar. (Daniel 3)  Daniel is gone from view, perhaps symbolic of the Church’s pre-tribulation removal from the kingdom of this world.  Left in view are the three Jewish friends in the midst of fire with one standing next to them who appears as “the Son of God” (Daniel 3:25 KJB only).  They represent remnant Israel in Daniel’s 70th week.  They will get protection during the “time of Jacob’s trouble”. (Revelation 12:6; Daniel 12:6-7)

At the Second Advent, remnant believing Israel will receive both the physical and spiritual aspects of the Abrahamic covenant.  They will receive a circumcised heart with the covenant written in their hearts.  They will receive the promised land in its intended fullness. (Jeremiah 31:31-34; Hebrews 8:6-12; Ezekiel 36:25-27).

Conclusion:

The Abrahamic promises have both spiritual and physical realm aspects.  God’s spiritual promises flowed through Isaac, the son of promise, to Christ.  Christ offered his life having fulfilled the law as an atonement offering for sin, dying once for all who would receive Him.  The law was the schoolmaster intended to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. (Galatians 3:24)  God’s physical and spiritual promises will flow from Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and God in Christ to the Jewish nation of Israel, that is the future remnant who will know Yeshua/Jesus. They will receive the land grant and the promises in the millennial kingdom which will be ruled by Christ.

Paul leads us from Romans 11:25-28 from the pre-tribulation resurrection/rapture (verse 25) to the Deliverer (verse 26) and Savior of Israel (verse 27).  Romans 11:26 belongs to Isaiah 59:20 and Romans 11:27 belongs to Isaiah 59:21.  Romans 11:26 and Isaiah 59:20 speak directly to Daniel 9:26.  Romans 11:27 and Isaiah 59:21 speak directly to Daniel 9:27.  The remnant Yeshua believing nation of Israel will be restored to God’s intended glory at our Lord’s Second Advent.

It is this simple.  And for all you who want to know about the antichrist covenant. It is not in Daniel 9:27.  It is in Daniel 11.  It will not be a covenant per se, but a league (Daniel 11:23), an agreement between the High Priest of the tribulation temple referred to by Jesus in Matthew 24:15 and the antichrist.  The allegory of Daniel

Some of God’s Promises to Abraham:

Genesis 22:16 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the Lord, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:

17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

Genesis 12:1 Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Genesis 13:15 For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.

16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.

17 Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.

Genesis15:18 In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:

Genesis 17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.

And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,

As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.
