The 70th Shemitah-Countdown to Daniel’s 70th Week

Lu:  You piqued my interest with your Shemitah article.  I looked into the matter briefly on Sunday and would offer a variation on your thesis.  I know there are differing views on how to count the Jubilee, etc.  My line of reasoning begins with Daniel’s 70 weeks prophecy which must be associated with the Jubilee in Daniel 9:26 speaking about Jesus’ role in releasing or delivering the captives.  This was first intimated in Leviticus 25’s discussion of Jublilee.   Today there is still calendar confusion, so we can just speculate like the prophets of 1 Peter 1:11 looking for Him to appear in Glory.

Jesus commenced His ministry in A.D. 26 with His preaching of Isaiah 61:1-2, stopping short of the day of vengeance.  (Luke 4:18-19)

Luke 4:18-19

18The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.   [This deliverance and liberty is associated with the Jubilee matters discussed in Leviticus 25]

Isaiah 61:1-2

 1The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

So, in A.D. 26 Jesus was announcing the commencement of His Messianic preaching.  This was  the First Advent of Christ.   He declares He has been appointed to preach deliverance to the captives [of sin]…to set at liberty them that are bruised [by sin].  This announcement that His ministry occurred in Daniel’s 69th week.  We can draw a conclusion that the year of His death and resurrection whereby He defeated sin and liberated all who would believe in His redemptive work speaks to a spiritual Jubilee in A.D. 30.  Since He was cut off after the 69th week His death and resurrection would deliver all believers from the condemnation of sin and set them at liberty.  He said: “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)  The year of His resurrection must have been the 50th year or the Jubilee.

Leviticus 25:10

10 And you shall consecrate the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants.   The 50th year is not the 1st year of the next cycle.

If this true, we would have a reliable date to calculate the Shemitah cycles from A.D. 30 to date.   This is quick my hypothesis.  If A.D. 30 was the Jubilee, then A.D. 31 would be Year 1 of the next Shemitah cycle.  Counting forward from the year following the resurrection (Year A.D. 31) to the 39th Jubilee cycle I arrived at 1980. Counting from 1980 forward,  I added 49 years for the next cycle arriving at 2029 or the 40th Jubilee since the resurrection.  At or following these 49 years, Year 50 should include the Second Advent of Christ.  In the last week of years, subtracting 7 years from 2029, we should have Daniel’s 70th week, under this hypothesis should commence in 2022.   Daniel’s 70th week will fulfill Isaiah 61:2b with the days of vengeance.

The Second Advent of Christ should be fulfilled by Isaiah 61:2c where the Lord’s comforts to all who mourn.  This will likely occur at the Feast of Tabernacles when the Lord will resurrect the Tribulation saints who lost their heads for the testimony and faith of Yeshua/Jesus. (Revelation 20:4-5)  This will be the third order of the First Resurrection known as the resurrection of righteousness. (1 Corinthians 15:20-23)  The three orders of the first resurrection are: (1) Christ at First Fruits (during Unleavened Bread), (2) Christ’s own at His appearing (the resurrection/rapture), and (3) then comes the end (when Tribulation saints raised). These three orders match the three pilgrimage feats of Unleavened Bread, Pentecost and Tabernacles.  God’s plans are ordered.

If we subtract 7 years from 2029 we arrive at Year 2022 as a potential resurrection/rapture year, likely a Pentecostal Springtime event on a day and hour known exclusively to our Lord.   We must be close!  Knowing God uses numbers to speak deeper truths, the number 22 is often a reference to God’s revelation.  The Book of Revelation is the 22nd book in NT.  The Book of Ecclesiastes has 12 chapters and 222 verses.  The last two verses state:   “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: 13Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”   Will 2022 be the beginning of the judgment?

Restating My A.D. 30 Position:

I know the controversy that most believe the resurrection was either AD 32 or 33.  However, a highly respected author on the resurrection date provides highly credible historic evidence for an A.D. 30 Resurrection.  See "The Chronology of the Old Testament" by Floyd Nolan Jones at pages 236-238.  This evidence comes from (1) Tertullian who says that Tiberius received word from Pilate about the events associated with Christ's death, His resurrection, as well as the miracles done by Him publicly and his disciples in His name and that many people believed Jesus to be God.  Tertullian writes that Tiberius proposed to the Roman senate that Jesus be included among their gods.  The senate rejected his proposal. The principal opposition came from Sejanus according to Orosius' writings.  Sejanus was Tiberius' anti-Semitic prefect.  Tacitus fixes Sejanus's death at October 18, A.D. 31.  Sejanus could not have addressed the Roman senate after AD 32. Additionally, writing in AD 417, Orosius adds that Augustus died in AD 14 and that Christ died in the 17th year of Tiberius' sole reign which was AD 30.
