Hello John and Doves,Well, the month of Tishrie has started. And Israel has celebrated Rosh Hashanah - the head of the New Year, 5781.We still have more special days to go this month and into October!10 Tishrei is the Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur (September 28)15 Tishrei through 21 Tishrei is the Festival of Tabernacles, Sukkot, "the Sabbath of Sabbaths" (October 3 - October 9) - it last 7 days.22 Tishrei is the Festival of the Great Day, The Eighth Day, The Solemn Assembly, Shemini Atzeret (October 10) It is the day after Sukkot ends. These dates are from the chabad.org calendar. And remember, Jewish days start with sundown the day before the above given date and end at sundown on the above given date. The first ten days of the month of Tishrie are called The Days of Awe ("Aseret Yemei Teshuvah" or Ten Days of Repentance) - starting with Rosh Hashanah and ending with the conclusion of Yom Kippur. To the Jewish people, this is a time of "returning" or "repentance" - Teshuvah"The sages describe this period as a time when "the gates of heaven are open, and I will listen to your prayers."...."it is customary for all of Israel to give profusely to charity, perform many good deeds, and be occupied with observance of G-d's commandments from Rosh Hashanah until Yom Kippur to a greater extent than during the remainder of the year"...because "our fate for the coming year is decided on Rosh Hashanah but not sealed until Yom Kippur, this is the time to return to G-d and beg Him to change the judgment for the better." https://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/1620809/jewish/The-Ten-Days-of-Repentance-The-Aseret-Yemay-Teshuvah.htm
