"Why do we so often take this as a challenge?"

Why do we so often take this as a challenge?

Matthew 24:36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

Isn't it kind of like we can't help trying to prove, guess, or calculate when it will be?
Is that the only way to look at this?
Does it only refer to people not being able to figure out what calendar date it will be?

Luke 17:20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:

Can that also apply to us today?
If so, would observation then include "observing" the Jewish calendar, or "observing" prophetic YouTube videos,
or "observing" the news on various websites?
We can't observe our way into knowing when the day will be, can we?
But what if the "not knowing the day", is not about being unable to guess or calculate it?
What if it means that we stop looking for it to come, to stop earnestly waiting for it?

Matthew 24:44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,

Can that possibly imply that we are simply caught off guard, because at that time, our heart won't be caring about that?

Luke 21:34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.

Why would Jesus warn to take heed, unless this is a very real possibility?
What if at that time, we all will be like the disciples were, the night Jesus was betrayed?
