How does darkness comprehend or not?

John 1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

Does darkness have a mind?
Doesn't darkness have power?

Colossians 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

Is the power of darkness the power of Satan?

Acts 26:18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
