"Upcoming Israeli Election and More On Rosh Hashanah"

Hello John and Doves,

A reminder for the upcoming Israeli election this week -

September 17, 2019/17th of Elul, 5779 - Israeli Election Day - for the 22nd Knesset

September 17 is an interesting date in history:

On this date -

1978 Camp David Accords Signed - Egyptian President Anwar El Sadat and Israeli PM Menachem Begin with President Jimmy Carter.
1935 Nazi Germany passed the Nuremberg Laws - anti-Semitic.
1394 Jews expelled from France - per King Charles VI

We'll be watching this election closely as Netanyahu is facing some stiff competition.

"As this bitter and ugly election campaign has proven once again, Israel's political scene is a jungle...Lapid projected certain victory; Netanyahu certain defeat."  The article explains what's been going on - https://www.jpost.com/Israel-Elections/Diplomatic-Affairs-That-winning-recipe-of-doing-badly-in-the-polls-601521

Their election is Tuesday so the results will be out soon after that.

And for more information on the month of Elul and the upcoming day of Rosh Hashanah/Feast of Trumpets....

Customs of Elul  http://www.jewfaq.org/elul.htm

Judaism 101: The Month of Elul and Selichot

"During the month of Elul, from the second day of Elul to the 28th day, the shofar is blown after morning services every weekday.  The shofar is not blown on Shabbat. Is is also not blown on the day before Rosh Hashanah to make a clear distinction between the rabbinical rule of blowing the shofar in Elul and the biblical mitzvah to blow the shofar on Rosh Hashanah....

Blowing the shofar on Rosh Hashanah is a biblical matzvah (commandment).  Four blasts are blown:  tekiah, shevarim-teruah, tekiah.  It is a call to repentance....

Many people visit cemeteries at this time, because the awe-inspiring nature of this time makes us think about life and death and our own mortality."

Jewish Funeral Guide - Remembrance - Grave Visitations

"It is also customary to visit the cemetery on fast days on the eves of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur....the Jewish custom is not to bring flowers or floral wreaths to the graves.  Instead, when taking leave of the deceased, one should place a pebble or small stone upon the grave."

I came across this list of 11 reasons for why they blow the shofar on Rosh Hashanah.  I note a few of these below and then compare them to blowing the shofar on the Rapture.

11 Reasons Why We Blow the Shofar on Rosh Hashanah - An artistic presentation of images and text - High Holidays

1) The Return of the King:  On Rosh Hashanah, the anniversary of creation.....Once more, He is crowned King of the universe....the shofar announces G-d's continued kingship.

2)  The Great Alarm Clock:  On Rosh Hashanah, the first day of the Ten Days of Repentance, we awake from our spiritual slumber.

4) The Voice:  The shofar reminds us of the voice of the prophets....

5) The Tears:  The shofar's cry reminds us of the cries and tears shed for the destruction of the Holy Temple of Jerusalem, galvanizing us to bring Moshiach and hasten the rebuilding of the Temple.

8) The Introspection:  The shofar will be blown on the Day of Judgment when Moshiach comes.  We thus blow the shofar on Rosh Hashanah to remind us to examine our deeds and contemplate how we can improve them.

9) The Celebration:  The shofar blast will signal the return of the Jewish people when Moshiach comes.

10) The Unity:  The shofar blast when Moshiach comes will herald a time of universal understanding and recognition of G-d's unity.

11) The Scream:  The call of the shofar on Rosh Hashanah reminds us of the primordial scream, the eternal voiceless call of the soul expressing its desire to return to its Creator.

IF we could apply these to the Rapture - IF this is the day picked by G-d for such an event, then:

1) The Return of the King - "For the Lord himself will come down from heaven..."  1 Thessalonians 4:16

2) The Great Alarm Clock - the awakening of the dead:  "...will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep..."  1 Thessalonians 4:15   "the dead will be raised imperishable..."  1 Corinthians 15:52

4) The Voice - "with the voice of the archangel..."  1 Thessalonians 4:16

5) The Tears -  "We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, concerning those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who have no hope. 1 Thessalonians 4:13

8) The Introspection - "...with the trumpet call of G-d" 1 Thessalonians 4:16   "...at the last trumpet.  For the trumpet will sound..."  1 Corinthians 15:52  The trumpet call is for those 'in Christ'

9) The Celebration - "...and the dead in Christ will rise first.  After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.  And so we will be with the Lord forever."  1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

10) The Unity - "And so we will be with the Lord forever."  1 Thessalonians 4:17

11) The Scream - "Therefore encourage one another with these words."  1 Thessalonians 4:18  Those in Christ will return to their Creator.

"When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true:  "Death has been swallowed up in victory".  "Where, O death, is your victory?  Where, O death, is you sting?"  1 Corinthians 15:54-55

Rosh Hashanah is coming up at the end of September:

Eve of Rosh Hashanah 29 Elul/Sept 29 sunset to 1 Tishrei/Sept 30 sunset.  Date on chabad calendar without a new moon sighting.  Rosh Hashanah is also celebrated for two days by the Jews today.  (The full moon of Elul is on the 14th at 12:33am at it's peak EDT - the Harvest Moon...the new moon should be visible on 1 Tishrie/Sept 30. https://www.calendar-12.com/moon_calendar/2019/october  )

Keep looking up!

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!

Maranatha!
