"Reprise--Calamity and Blessings"

Hello, John and Doves,

In the depths of dark trials, we may wonder,

"Why does God seem to delight in my calamity?"

One possible reason:

It is written,

"Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him."

John 9:3  KJV

You see, it is written of those closest to Christ,

"For it seems to me that God has put us apostles on display at the end of the procession, like those condemned to die in the arena. We have been made a spectacle to the whole universe, to angels as well as to human beings."

1 Corinthians 4:9  NIV

Indeed, the world is amazed no end to see Christians who delight in their God despite their poor conditions and their calamitous lives.  But we know that it is written,

3"Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?

Who may stand in his holy place?

4The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,

who does not trust in an idol

or swear by a false god.

5They will receive blessing from the Lord

and vindication from God their Savior.

6Such is the generation of those who seek him,

who seek your face, God of Jacob."

Psalm 24:3-6

So, then, why does God allow calamity in my life?

He does it so that he may vindicate [justify] my faith tested in the fire.

From the Brit Chadashah [New Testament], we read,

Praise to God for a Living Hope

3"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

4and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you,

5who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

6In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.  7These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire--may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed."

1 Peter 1:7  NIV

~Blessings,

Mike
