"Assault on the nation-state...an explanation"

Dear Christian brothers and sisters:

I am posting this, not that it is anything new, but that it explains simply the situation we as Americans find nation in danger of today.  May God have mercy on us and deliver us speedily from this wicked and degenerate generation.

In an article by Alan W. Dowd entitled “Assault on the Nation-State”, Mr. Dowd noted the major problem of the so-called “globalists”.  Quoting from his incisive article published in the American Legion Magazine, I call your attention to the following words of Mr. Dowd:

“For the better part of 400 years, the nation-state system has served to organize the world.  But today, this global order is under assault from four divergent movements:  post-nationalism (think globalization), supranationalism (think International Criminal Court) transnationalism (think al-Qaida), and non-nationalism (think failed states).  Given that the U. S. is the most powerful nation-state (that has ever been in the history of the world), these movements are at odds with American interests”.

The greatest danger America faces today is the incessant movement toward globalization.  For right now, that is for the moment, the United States is in the mode of resistance.

POST-NATIONALISM

This, of course, assumes no nation-state.  That would  mean that our sovereignty has been ceded to a world order of some sort.  The pressure is great and mounting for that very thing to happen.  So far, it has not succeeded, but there are those pushing for it anyway, both internally and externally.

SUPRANATIONALISM

Again, quoting from Dowd’s article:  “If transnationalism erodes a nation-state system from below, supranationalism whittles it away from above.  Both seek a stateless world, although their visions for what such would look like are dramatically different.”

“Examples of supranationalism are organizations like the United Nations, International Criminal Court, or the European Union.”

Our own former Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld worried about this and he warned that “it gives states an excuse to take the easy way out by punting problems to these bodies instead of taking responsibility for them”.  We see this happening frequently now with many of the nations, including our own country. The U. N. has become an excuse not to act in places where perhaps military or economic action is required.  The U. N. thus becomes a hindrance to problem solution, instead of a solution because of the veto power of sovereign states using it for their own interests to the harm of other nations.  Mr. Dowd cites the following example:

“The International Criminal Court is an example of “lawfare”, using legal means to constrain the political independence of nation-states.  The ICC…..has conducted investigations ‘into whether NATO troops, including American soldiers, fighting the Taliban may have to be put in dock.’  The ICC has no authority to take such action against the U. S. since the U. S. is not party to the treaty, but that’s not stopping ICC lawyers from lunging at U. S. sovereignty”.

The United Nations took eight weeks in 2003 to approve a resolution requiring Sadaam Hussein’s Iraq to comply with existing resolutions made by the U. N.

And sadly, in 2010 North Korea torpedoed a South Korean ship in international waters, killing 46 sailors.  All the U. N. did was to publish a report condemning the attack without condemning the attacker, let alone punish them, Dowd reports.  “Yet, while the U. N. fails to hold agressors responsible for their misconduct, U. N. affiliated bodies such as the ICC impugn and investigate the U. S. for trying to uphold the international system”.

Another glaring example is the nuclear testing of atomic bombs by North Korea.  These tests are illegal and demand U. N. sanctions.  Nothing yet has been done to make it painful for North Korea to continue such illegal and dangerous activity.

TRANSNATIONALISM

Examples of Transnationalism are groups such as al-Qaida and other terrorist organizations operating in the world.  These have an objective:  to erode the nation-state from below, instead of above.  These have as their goal, according to Rumsfeld (quoted again) “to end the state system using terrorism, to drive the non-radicals from the world”.

This dangerous world movement, mostly at this time Islamic jihadists, but also including some others is a very present and real danger to the world system of nation-states.  These adherents stop at nothing including genocide, and will use whatever means to achieve their goal.  These adherents are brute-beasts, killing without mercy any in their path.  Names like Taliban, al-Qaida, Hamas, etc bring these to life in our present world.  The entire middle east is a hot bed of activity.

POSTNATIONALISM

This envisions a world after or beyond the nation-state.  This would do away with all sovereignty and lump the world into one basket.  A one-world system as it is called in the Bible.  It is envisioned to be a highly integrated system of rulership as compared to governance, and finally, for the first time, it is possible because of highly advanced computer and scientific technology.  Greed among the nation-states is helping tremendously to advance this dream of the New World Order people.

Dowd comments to the reader that the world thinkers and elite planners right now (think bankers, socialists, etc) see this as a world eventually devolved to megacities, nongovernmental organizations and multinational companies.  Businesses as we know them now could not operate successfully in such an atmosphere.  It seems that thinkers and planners today accept globalization as “good”, that is until it infringes on their own sovereignty or threatens their own security.  U. S. President Harry Truman, Dowd wrote, “like many Americans, would probably conclude that globalization is good (as it lowers transactional costs) until it infringes on American sovereignty or threatens American security.  It pays to recall that our enemies are exploiting the promise of a borderless world in order to attack the present world.  Consider what is happening in cyberspace, or what happened on 9/11/2001when the twin (financial) towers were downed.  Post-nationalists ignore these downsides of globalization”.  They do so in their own self interest, largely driven by greed.

Up until the election of our present administration, the U. S. has resisted these movements against it throughout its entire history.

Since the United States of America came of age in a centuries old system of global order (instead of dis-order), the question now is can it keep that order from falling apart?  Does it have the will to?

Only God, in His great mercy, can control a world so hell-bent on its own destruction.  It is time, I believe, for God to once again intervene in the affairs of men and His word says that He will in the form of rapture/judgment of a system that is heinously wicked.

My own observation is that the rapture event/sudden destruction will force the world to reform into a one world system and post nationalism will be realized.
