According to the Word, the 1st evening spent in the booths, during the Feast of Tabernacles, is on the 16th of Tishri and NOT on the evening of the 15th of Tishri.

 

This is simply because the booths are built during the day, on the 15th of Tishri!

 

"...on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the fruit of the land, you shall keep the feast of the Lord for seven days...And you shall take for yourselves on the first day [15th of Tishri] the fruit of beautiful trees, branches of palm trees, the boughs of leafy trees, and willows of the brook...You shall keep it as a feast to the Lord for seven days..." [Lev.23:39-41]

 

The burnt offerings are offered to the Lord, during the Day, from the 15th of Tishri to the 22nd of Tishri.

 

The Law of Moses is also read by the priest, during the Day, from the 15th of Tishri to the 22nd of Tishri.

 

The  7 Day Feast is kept, in the booths, from the 16th of Tishri to the 22nd of Tishri.

 

 

Evening: 15th of Tishri:---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 

Day: 15th of Tishri: The Law of Moses is read, burnt offerings are offered up to the Lord and the booths are built.

 

 

Evening: 16th of Tishri: 1st night dwelling and feasting in booths.

 

Day: 16th of Tishri: The Law of Moses is read and burnt offerings are offered up to the Lord.

 

 

Evening: 17th of Tishri: 2nd night dwelling and feasting in booths.

 

Day: 17th of Tishri: The Law of Moses is read and burnt offerings are offered up to the Lord.

 

 

Evening: 18th of Tishri: 3rd night dwelling and feasting in booths.

 

Day: 18th of Tishri: The Law of Moses is read and burnt offerings are offered up to the Lord.

 

 

Evening: 19th of Tishri: 4th night dwelling and feasting in booths.

 

Day: 19th of Tishri: The Law of Moses is read and burnt offerings are offered up to the Lord.

 

 

Evening: 20th of Tishri: 5th night dwelling and feasting in booths.

 

Day: 20th of Tishri: The Law of Moses is read and burnt offerings are offered up to the Lord. 

 

 

Evening: 21st of Tishri: 6th night dwelling and feasting in booths.

 

Day: 21st of Tishri: The Law of Moses is read and burnt offerings are offered up to the Lord.

 

 

Evening: 22nd of Tishri: 7th night dwelling and feasting in booths.

 

Day: 22nd of Tishri: [The Sacred Assembly]The Law of Moses is read and burnt offerings are offered up to the Lord.

 

"Also day by day, from the first day [15th of Tishri] until the last day [22nd of Tishri], he [that is, Ezra the priest] read from the the Book of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day [22nd of Tishri] there was a sacred assembly..." [Neh.8:18]

 

In John we read,

 

"On the last day [22nd of Tishri, sacred assembly], that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out..." [John 7:37]

 

The "last day" in the above verse is the day the Lord had in mind when He said,

 

"...everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day [22nd of Tishri, sacred assembly]." [John 6:40]

 

The Last day, that great day of the feast, falls on Tuesday the 9th of October 2012!

 

This could be the day we all go home!
