I have never had a vision. Despite having been Spirit-filled.
But over the years in pulmonary/ICU care practice then later mainly outpatient practice (the burnout rate on critical care specialists is astronomical due to the stress. Who ya gonna call? No one. You is it.), I have had a fair share of contacts with those who have, plus personal things I would like to share.
I had two patients, young people, who were on the front lines of propagating Christ in dangerous parts of the world. It seems to me the Lord gives the most intense spiritual visions to those that need it most, those whose very lives are in peril for where they share Him in the world. They would individually see angels around them. To the point that they would each write down descriptions of what they saw, then compare notes.. THE VISIONS MATCHED. I envied these people. They were as poor as church mice, they could not afford generic drugs. No problem. They were intensely happy and excited about life.
I had two retired police detectives, a husband-wife couple who were intensely Spirit-filled. One day, the wife came home to find their young son not there. In the meantime, another friend of theirs, also intensely Spirit-filled, felt the urgent need to rush over to their house. as he approached, he saw an angel standing on the roof of their house. She (the wife) jumped into the car, and began relaying driving instructions she received from the Lord.
"Turn left.......turn right......keep on going, keep on, turn left here, turn right." On and on, as the Spirit led All the way down into south Phoenix. Finally, she said, "Stop here!"She got out and ran to the door. A man answered it. "You have my son. SHOW ME HIM!"
He tried to laugh it off, but she had the persona of a police detective, which he realized even more so as she summoned help on her walkie-talkie. Turning pale, he opened a closet door. Out steps her son!!!! And what really got me in this story, is she witnessed to him about the Lord, and led him to Jesus Christ as his Savior. Jesus totally transformed this man.
One day I felt envy about those who have visions about Heaven. "Try this.," I felt Him say to my spirit. My eyes were led to a video in the comedy section of Blockbuster. I checked out the movie, "Date with an Angel," and I took it home. It is a funny comedy about an Angel sent to pick up a man dying of a brain tumor, who strikes a satellite on her way to pick him up, careens down into his swimming pool, with a broken wing. Well, they screen tested 6,000 females for the part of the Angel as they wanted to make her look as Heavenly and like a real Angel as possible, They succeeded beyond comprehension, and I was totally incapacitated by the ethereal other world persona, power, and beauty of this being. It took me a long time to get over it. I think the Lord's point He was proving (knowing what my reaction would be) is, that in real Heaven we will be surrounded by Angels who each have the same joy impartation to us as this movie Angel, only much more so, and there will be millions of them, not to mention the joy of being near Jesus.
