Today I was reviewing some past issues of Prophecy in the News, in particular,  June 2011.  Gary Stearman wrote a very interesting article on the prophetic fulfillment for Egypt in Ezek 29.  With the current unrest in Egypt, one can only wonder how this unrest and violence will ultimately play out.  Gary makes the very pertinent case how Egypt might be affected by the destruction of the “Tower of Syene” which he equates with the Aswan Dam.  He points out quite rightly that only a nuclear weapon could collapse that dam and cause widespread radioactive flooding downstream in Cairo and surrounding areas.  In addition, there has been some recent speculation on Isa 17 where Damascus is destroyed overnight.

If there is a massive Islamic attack on Israel, they could certainly respond with WMD and take out Damascus and Egypt.  This would undoubtedly terminate an Islamic onslaught and result in a “Peace Agreement” with a prophetic “Mediator”.

On the website RaptureReady, the article this week by Terry James  postulates the idea of what prompts the “Sudden Destruction” indicated in scripture.  He maintains that it is only through the power of the Holy Spirit and His Restraining power that stills forestalls the rise of violence, war, and economic collapse.

When God removes His church and its restraining force, there will be no restraint on Satan and the evil that awaits this world; and the world will experience the coming “hour of trial”.
 
On an additional note, the destruction of Syria AND Egypt would undoubtedly incur the wrath of Russia who has a stake in both countries.  Could this set up a scenario for Eze 38,39?  Time will tell…..
