A tsunami
warning is in effect for
Alaska’s Aleutian Islands after an earthquake struck this
morning. Here’s the
latest from the AP.
ANCHORAGE,
Alaska (AP) — A tsunami
warning is in effect for parts of the Aleutian Islands of
Alaska after a
7.1-magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Pacific Ocean.
The USGS
says the earthquake struck in
the ocean at about 6:55a.m. EDT (1055 GMT), and there
are no initial reports of
injuries or damage.
The tsunami
warning is in effect for
coastal areas of Alaska from Unimak Pass to Amchitka Pass. The
areas are very
remote and not heavily populated, according to Jessica Sigala,
geophysicist
with the USGS in Golden, Colorado.
