"RE: Lewis Brackett: 10.12.25: good enough"

Lewis,
Very good.
Yes, I'm not, nor ever have been, good enough, or worthy, to saved, or to stay saved.
I also have never been, by any thing I have done, or not done, to be worthy of the blessed hope.
Likewise, I have never been, by any thing I have done, or not done, to be worthy to partake of the Lord's supper.
The only one who is truly worthy, is Jesus.
Any righteousness that I have, is the imputed righteousness of Christ, by faith in the Lord Jesus:

II Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Eternal life is because of Jesus, then going in the blessed hope is because of Jesus, and then partaking of the Lord's supper is because of Jesus.
I was never worthy of the body and blood of the Savior before I was saved, so why do I think that I now have to be worthy enough to remember his body and blood.
At the Lord's supper, I'm remembering what he did for "unworthy me".
So, if it is arrogance, like Cain, to think I can merit salvation by what I do or not do,
or if it is arrogance to think that I can merit the blessed hope by what I do or not do,
is it also arrogant to think that I've been worthy enough to remember the cross, which was a sacrifice for the unworthy in the first place?
btw - in is an adverb, "unworthily", describing how it is done, rather than an adjective, "unworthy", describing me:

I Corinthians 11:27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

Unworthily in couple of ways I can think of: one partaking before I am even saved,
and two, partaking in some kind of party, where some are even drunken, like may have been going on in Corinth.

I used to think arrogantly, letting the plate go by, because I didn't deem myself worthy enough to remember the cross.
For wha? So that I could then do some kind of Baptist style penance, so that I could be worthy next time?

Thank you for that letter, Lewis!
