Jesus had challenged those, who were trying to find fault with him, to search the scriptures:
John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
Perhaps they may have been offended by that, but they shouldn't have been offended:
Psalms 119:165 Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.
If they were offended by the challenge to search the scriptures, berhaps that may be why they turned it around on Jesus, challenging him to search the scriptures:
John 7:52 They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.
But if they had, they would have realized that Isaiah had spoken about Galilee, that Matthew referred to:
Matthew 4:12 Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee;
13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:
14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;
There was a prophet, Jonah, the son of Amittai:
Jonah 1:1 Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,
Who was mentioned in II Kings, of Gathhepher:
II Kings 14:25 He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of the LORD God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of his servant Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, which was of Gathhepher.
Which was mentioned as Gittahhepher in the book of Joshua, regarding the land of Zebulun
Joshua 19:13 And from thence passeth on along on the east to Gittahhepher, to Ittahkazin, and goeth out to Remmonmethoar to Neah;
16 This is the inheritance of the children of Zebulun according to their families, these cities with their villages.
Are those connections correct?If so, couldn't have they known that a prophet, Jonah, had arisen out of Galilee?
