"when did they get there?"

When did they get there?

Revelation 18:2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.

Apparently, they were not always there, because it says, "is become the habitation of devils"
Are they there for the last days, in time for the second advent of Jesus?
How do they get there?
The old testament mentioned evil spirit, lying spirit, devils, gods, and evil angels.
Yet, it seems that many of those same things wound up in Israel in time for Jesus' first advent.
How they get to Babylon at the time of the second advent, and how they got to Israel in time for the first advent, may be indicated in the old testament:

Judges 9:23 Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:

I Samuel 16:14 But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.

Psalms 78:49 He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.

I Kings 22:22 And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so.

23 Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.

The LORD sent them as part of judgment.
Did he send them also to Israel in time for his earthly ministry?
Jesus demonstrated that he is the Messiah, and one of the ways, was in casting out so many devils, by miraculous signs of the kingdom of God.
Not only did it show who he is, but it also is a foretaste of what he will do when Israel believes on him, and he gets rid of all the evil spirits.
Just like when the Jews returned to Israel from ancient Babylon, at the end, Jews will return to Israel from Mystery, Babylon:

Revelation 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

No doubt, like people witnessed in the Gadarenes, Jews in Mystery, Babylon will witness so many evil spirits there.
Many will leave there, avoiding its judgment, and go to Israel, similar to how they left Egypt, which had plagues and evil angels.
After the judgment upon Egypt, what happened to all those evil angels that the LORD sent there?
Were they imprisoned, down below, with those that fell before the flood?
What happened to all the evil spirits that were in Israel during Jesus' earthly ministry, after his crucifixion and resurrection?
When Israel was judged in 70 AD, were all those evils spirits imprisoned, down below, also?
So, when Jesus judges Mystery, Babylon, will all those devils and foul spirits be imprisoned down below, also?
When Jesus returns and establishes the thousand year kingdom, will all the evil spirits be cast out of the earth?
Not even will animals be hurting each other, or people, during the kingdom, no malevolent spirits provoking them.
Will all those evil spirits be imprisoned during the kingdom, to await the final judgment?

II Peter 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

Perhaps some of them will be temporarily let out, when the devil is released from the bottomless pit, to help him go out and deceive the nations?
If so, they will still face the judgment, like the others still imprisoned, and end up in the lake of fire with the devil:

Matthew 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

So, will Mystery, Babylon become so wicked, that Jesus sends all those devils, fouls spirits, and evil angels, there, as part of its judgment?
Will they be there, as the evil angels sent to Egypt, and the fallen angels before the flood, as part of the judgment?
Will they also drive the people into much further wickedness and rebellion, resulting in severe judgment?

And it says "habitation" of devils, and "hold" of every foul spirit.
Before the end, it becomes their home, it becomes the place where they hang out.
No doubt it will be a horrible place, before it is judged.

But the, "a cage of every unclean and hateful bird", is interesting.
Apparently, one of the things that this maybe speaks of, is in comparison to the wickedness there:

Jeremiah 5:27 As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich.

But, could it not also show, that by using the word cage, that they are not really free?
So, would that then show that the devils and foul spirits, there, are not really free, either?
That they are also there, like in a giant bird cage, to fulfill their duty, to corrupt Mystery, Babylon unto judgement?
And then to be further imprisoned down below, to await the final judgment, a thousand years later?

Is this possible? Or, am I way, way, off on all this?
