(The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, in chapter 36:)

Jeremiah 36:1 And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

(Jeremiah was to write down all the words that the LORD had previously spoken unto Jeremiah:)

  2 Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.

(Then Jeremiah had a scribe, Baruch, who wrote down the words of the LORD from the mouth of Jeremiah, as inspired scripture:)

  4 Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.

(Then Baruch was to read the words of the LORD, to the people, from the inspired scriptures that he had just penned:)

  6 Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD’S house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.

(These words of the inspired scriptures are called the words of the LORD:)

Jeremiah 36:8 And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of the LORD in the LORD’S house.

(Yet, they are also called the words of Jeremiah:)

Jeremiah 36:10 Then read Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD’S house, in the ears of all the people.

(They wanted to know how the scribe wrote those words, and then, Baruch was able to explain it very simply:)

  17 And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth?

  18 Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.

(A little later, when king Jehoiakim heard Jehudi read from the same scriptures, taken from Baruch, that the king burned those scriptures.

Then, the LORD wanted Jeremiah to do it again, a perfect, inspired copy of the scriptures:)

  27 Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,

  28 Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.

(And the LORD even had Jeremiah add like words to the copy:)

Jeremiah 36:32 Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words.

(Eventually, added to that book of the scriptures, were also the words that the LORD pronounced against Babylon:)

Jeremiah 51:60 So Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that should come upon Babylon, even all these words that are written against Babylon.

(That copy of the scriptures was to be read at Babylon, and then thrown into the river Euphrates:)

  61 And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, When thou comest to Babylon, and shalt see, and shalt read all these words;

  62 Then shalt thou say, O LORD, thou hast spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate for ever.

  63 And it shall be, when thou hast made an end of reading this book, that thou shalt bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of Euphrates:

  64 And thou shalt say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring upon her: and they shall be weary. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.

(Clearly, another perfect, inspired copy of those scriptures was made, as the book of Jeremiah has survived.)
