Fay, Do you live out in the country? i.e. do you have a fireplace? For those who don't have alternate heating, are there any government emergency plans coming into place? I remember, as a child, there was a terrible ice storm, leaving, I guess, hundreds of thousands without electricity. It was only for a week or so, but any water, liquids, and all but dry food, froze in the house. Families bundled up together, and stayed that way, in order not to freeze. Again, it was only for a relatively short period of time, not like an entire winter that is coming to Europe. Do you have any family in the country, with fireplaces, or relatives and friends in warmer climates that you can be with? It may behoove those in power, to consult with those who moved to the UK from northern Canada, Greenland, Scandinavia, or Siberia. No doubt those people have experienced dramatic cold spells, especially when services stopped, and can remember what people did to survive.
