"Be Still and Know That I Am God"

Be Still and Know That I Am God

I have a wonderful younger brother who knows and loves the Lord with all of his heart.  We had a beautiful telephone conversation yesterday and his words truly touched my heart and opened my eyes to the wonders all around us, created by a loving God and Father.

I have been struggling with something for many years and was recently granted an answer to prayer concerning this situation.  I so desperately want to do as God wishes that I froze and didn’t know what to do.

I spoke to my brother about this and he told me a story.  He said, “Nature is all around us….The nature that God, our Father, created.  His love and knowledge surrounds us, if we would but look."

“You know how much I love birds?  Have you ever noticed a mother duck or a mother hen?  They are constantly making low noises as they shepherd their small flock about.  The little ones crawl all over her.  They climb on her back and shelter under her wings when threatened.  But occasionally, one little one will wander away, beguiled or lured by the world around them.

As the little one begins their big adventure, oblivious to the dangers, seeing only good things and curious about their surroundings, the mother is watching….. Because she loves her little ones so much.  She never takes her eyes off them.

But she does let the little one wander (free choice).  At some point, when the mother perceives a danger or is concerned, despite having all of the rest of her flock around her, she stops talking.  She goes silent and still.  The flock surrounding her stop too and wait, for they know not what, but attentive to her authority in their lives.  The wanderer eventually stops too…. Finally aware that their safety net is far away.  The world is suddenly not so bright or inviting.  Mother is so distant (or so it seems).  The little one stops whatever they are doing and rushes back to mother, climbing on her back or sheltering beneath her wings, surrounded by the flock of brothers and sisters reassuring them that all is well."

God is like that.  He is always there.  He is always watching.  He allows us our freedom but if we grow still, we will begin to understand just how far away we have drifted from Him and His safety.

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! (Psalm 46:10)

May these words enrich your life and give you pause to reflect upon the glory of Our God and his continuous and unalterable love for you.  No matter where you are in your walk with Him, take a moment today and, “be still”.  He is always waiting for you.  His love never ceases.  May God surround you with His Grace, Mercy and Protection today and all days.

Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.Luke 21:36
