“Until the Messiah Shall Be Sixty nine Weeks”

Garry:

I want you to consider a very curious set of numbers in Daniel’s 70 Weeks prophecy.  The numbers are 7, 62, and 1.

Why are Daniel’s 70 weeks of years divided into three groups?   This is a really, really important question.  So, before analyzing the 69 weeks, we should focus our inquiry on these three divisions.  This is part of the “sealing” aspect.

Let me suggest that the three divisions represent God’s clock of years.  First there is a period of 7-7’s or 49 years.  Then, there is a period of 62-7’s or 434 years.  Finally there is a period of 1-7 or 7 years.   Why?   God is very purposeful.  This is not supposed to be easy. (Proverbs 25:2)  Let me suggest that the 70-7’s or 490 years are not consecutive years under man’s calendar.  I would suspect that there are two breaks, one between 7 and 62 and the other between 62 and 1.   This sort of timekeeping is done in all sporting games.  They are timeouts.

Why would God place timeouts in his 490 year plan for Daniel and his people?  Perhaps God’s game clock is based on His relationship with the nation of Israel.  Perhaps these 7, 62 and 7 year periods represent years when Israel was in a right relationship with God, maybe “covenant time”.   Maybe the two intervals represent periods of time when Israel was outside the right or covenant relationship.

We certainly know that following Jesus’ Zechariah 9:9 donkey ride into Jerusalem 4 days prior to His atoning death, the nation of Israel (nationally) rejected Him as Messiah.  Following this rejection we certainly know that God had a big problem with Israel nationally.   Now, I am of the opinion that the 69th week ended on, or about Nisan 10, 30 A.D. with the national rejection.  I know you have a different view.   But, I think we need to look at God’s uses of covenant time in this prophecy and use them for guidance toward truth.  All the pieces must align to form a unified view.  The doctrine of the restoration is Israel is the key to understanding this prophecy.

Now, for me, Daniel’s 70th week is a week of 7 years in Israel’s future.   I believe this because seven years represents a Sabbath set of years.  When I look to the purposes of verse 24, I am convinced that God treats this time as a holy Sabbath set of years.   There will be a baptism of fire (Isaiah 48:10; Daniel 3:25) of Israel nationally which will result in the remnant coming to receive Jesus/Yeshua as Lord and Savior.   I believe the remnant enters into the covenant relationship with the God of their fathers during this time because God in Christ will have confirmed and strengthened His promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.  These 7 years belong to the remnant.  (Romans 9:27; 11:26-27) The confirmed covenant follows the resurrection and rapture of Christ’s own, an event which precedes Daniel’s last week of years.

As in the time of Jesus’ ministry we can draw a parallel: witness followed by ministry.  There was a time of preparation and witnessing.  John the Baptist’s witness of the coming Messiah preceded His ministry.  Did that ministry last 3.5 years?  I do not know.  But Jesus’ ministry lasted 3.5 years.   Now, Satan, the great copycat, will engineer the AC’s ministry which will last 3.5 years, copying Jesus’. (Revelation 12)   We also have a 3.5 year period where the two witnesses (Moses and Elijah representing the law and the prophets) testify for 3.5 years.  This must precede the AC ministry because Moses and Elijah will testify to the nation of Israel about the coming Messiah. They are surely not going to testifyi in Jerusalem while the remnant nation of Israel has fled the AC being sequestered in the wilderness and cared for by the Lord, as we see in Revelation 12:6.

Keep searching and studying the Scriptures of Truth.

Garry B. thanks for your passion!
