“Modern English Composition”

Garry:

In Daniel 9:27, the pronoun “he” was intentionally ambiguous because Daniel was designed to be a “sealed book”.  (Daniel 12:9)   E.W. Bullinger states that when the antecedent to the nominative pronoun is ambiguous, we are required to focus on the subject of the phrase not the nominative antecedent.  This then shifts the inquiry to the word “covenant”.  The covenant should be the focus of study.   In my other comment to you, we know that the theme of Daniel 9 deals with God’s covenant name “Jehovah”.  So, God’s covenant promises should be our default first choice when attempting to understand verse 27.   (See my comment to Gino this week)

Why would “God in Christ” (Galatians 3:17 context) need to confirm this covenant ?  Perhaps the referenced covenant had been deferred or weakened for a period of time, such as the Church Age.  Paul tells us that the Abrahamic covenant was not annulled by Christ’s atoning work. (Galatians 3:15-18) This analysis finds it basis in the restoration of “remnant Israel” during Daniel’s 70th week.   Isaiah named his son Shear Jazub which means “a remnant shall return to Jehovah”.  Look at Revelation 12:17; 14:12, 20:4-5, Romans 9:27, Isaiah 10:21-22, Romans 11:26-27.

I believe that Replacement theology is the principal reason that the majority views this covenant as a satanic treaty.   If the Church had replaced Israel, which it certainly has not, then you would never consider Daniel’s verse 27 covenant to have anything to do with the restoration of Israel.  The other big reason that the majority thinks the covenant is a satanic treaty has to do with the minority text translation of the verb “confirm”.   Most, if not all minority texts, (Alexandrian/Vatican origin) do not use the word “confirm”, but “make”.  Go back and study every verb in the old testament associated with the word “covenant” and you will see that the Hebrew word root for covenant  “gebar” is never used except here in verse 27.  Yet the minority text bible revisers have intentionally mistranslated the verb “gebar” to mean “make”.

The covenant, in all probability was established in Genesis 22:16 by the oath of God.  Guess what verse number Daniel 9:27 is in the Bible.  It is the 22,016th verse.  Who comes back at the end of Daniel’s week?   Look to Revelation 22:16.  Jesus, the root and offspring of David, the bright and morning star.  Coincidence or is God just AWESOME!
