Re: Gino 6 October 2019 “the covenant”

Gino:  I will comment on your Daniel 9:27 “covenant” question.  You are correct to search and study the Scriptures for truth.  Paul says it is good to “prove all things” in the context of prophecy. (1 Thessalonians 5:20-21)

I have written on this subject extensively.  https://www.amazon.com/Day-Thy-Visitation-Jacobs-Trouble-ebook/dp/B07D1GCVDQ     You can review the Table of Contents.

I have spent hundreds of hours studying Daniel’s preeminent prophecy.  The majority view believes the “covenant” is a Satanic covenant.  I have never written to disprove their view, only written to explain my view with biblical citations.

The covenant is a Divine covenant.  All prophecy should first be viewed in the context of Revelation 19:10. This verse says that the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.   So, the first question should be: “Does Daniel 9:27 testify to Jesus?”   Prophecy is a study of patterns.

Then, consider God’s covenant promises to Israel.  They began with Abraham.  Have all of God’s promises to Abraham been fulfilled?   If not, should we not consider the covenant of Daniel 9:27 as a possibility where God begins to fulfill His promises?  According to Daniel 9:24 it would appear that there is a 7-year period left during which this process comes to its fullness.   Daniel’s 70th week is a 7-year period.  The first 3.5 years begins with witnesses (Moses and Elijah) just as a witness (John the Baptist) preceded Jesus’ 3.5-year ministry.  Jesus’ ministry lasted 3.5 years.  The ministry of the Antichrist will last 3.5 years as indicated by Revelation 12 which by the way finds its counterpart in Daniel 12.

There are subtle clues in Daniel 9 about God’s intent.  Daniel wrote 12 chapters.  He used God’s covenant name (Jehovah) in Daniel chapter 9 seven times, but never once in the other 11 chapters.  Interesting is it not?  The theme of Chapter 9 is that Jehovah will keep His promises to Israel.

Then there is the subtle clue in the Hebrew word for “confirm” in verse 27.  Its root is “gebar”.  It is used once in the Old Testament in association with the word “covenant”.  That is important.  Guess what the root of this word means?  It means “mighty”.   Who is Mighty and having salvation?  Israel’s Messiah Yeshua, El Gibbor.   The remnant of Jacob will return unto the Mighty God. (Isaiah 10:21) The “Almighty” is used in the Book of Revelation 9 times and only once elsewhere in the NT (2 Corinthians 6:18).

Then there is the pattern of Divine “oaths” that we seen in Daniel 9:26 and 9:27.   Israel’s Messiah upon offering up His life as an atonement offering “once for all”, becomes a priest after the order of Melchizedek.  This prophetic statement was based on the “oath of God”. Psalm 110:4.   In Daniel 9:27 we find another Divine oath associated with the “covenant”.  It too, is based on the “oath of God”. (Genesis 22:16)

Then, there is unmistakable, parallelism of Isaiah 59 which finds its counterpart in Daniel 9.  We can thank Paul for telling us how to find the “he” of Daniel 9:27. Romans 11 provides the clues in verses 26 and 27 where Paul makes a second coming interpretation of Isaiah’s first coming prophecy in Isaiah 59:20 and 21.   This prophecy can only happen in Daniel 9:27.

I could go on, but it’s all in the book.

In Christ, Greg
