(God) Your "prophets" (those who claim to speak for You) have said so many foolish things, which are false to the core. They did not try to hold your people back from "exile" (punitive punishment) by pointing out their sins.

 

INSTEAD... they painted false pictures, filling them with false hope. (Lamentations 2:14)

(Hold on to your life in this world, don't deny yourself - God will still reward you with everything!)
