Spiritual Dams and Storm Walls - Part 2Daniel in the Lion’s denWhat does the Word of God teach us about His wall of protection, His ever-present help in times of trouble, and His hedge about us?Much! And it is most important that we refresh those scriptures in our minds to build faith in our hearts during these hours of turmoiland distress, and those to come.Satan knows one thing for sure: He can do nothing except what God allows him to do. Unfortunately, we sometimes forget that.He had to have God’s permission to test Job. That test was to destroy every blessing God had given to this man---his wealth, his livelihood, most of his family, even his health. Read the book of Job carefully, and compare it with what you yourself might be experiencing even now. Note Job’s response, and the outcome of this experience.Today, many of God’s people are not prepared for such things, and most might be tempted to do as Job’s wife suggested he do: “Curse God and die”. But at this point, we see a provision God gives us to overcome the fears and despair that torments our minds when things go wrong:We must recognize the power of TRUST IN HIS WORD. Job answers to his wife and friends was “tho He slay me, yet will I trust Him”.When we face the seemingly insurroundable walls of escape and the overcoming of destructive forces, we need to turn our focusto such scriptures like these in Psalm 46:“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth. He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.
Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.”
Psalm 91: 9-16:
“You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who spend your nights in the shadow of the Almighty, who say to the LORD, “My refuge! My fortress! My God, in whom I trust!” – He will rescue you from the trap of the hunter, and from the plague of disease. He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings you will find refuge; His truth is a shield and a protection.
You will not fear the terrors of night, or the arrow that flies by day, or the sickness that roams in the dark, or even the destruction that lays waste at noon. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it won’t come near you. Only keep your eyes open, and you will see how the wicked are punished. For you have made the LORD, the Most High, who is my refuge, your dwelling place. No disaster will happen to you, no calamity will come near your house; for He will order His angels to care for you and guard you wherever you go. They will carry you in their hands, so that you won’t trip on a stone. You will tread down lions and snakes, young lions and serpents you will trample underfoot.
“Because he loves Me, I will rescue him; because he knows My Name, I will protect him. He will call upon Me, and I will answer him. I will be with him when he is in trouble. I will rescue him and bring him honor. I will satisfy him with long life and show him My salvation.”
