"To Steve Coerper RE: "Do the Rich have a moral obligation to pay higher taxes?""

Steve,
Good for you!
America used to be called "the land of opportunity".
People from all over the world came here because they
found freedom to use the gifts God gave them, and yes
MAYBE EVEN BECOME WEALTHY DOING IT!!!
(Oh the shame of it!  /sarcasm)

Wealth and success used to be celebrated in America.
In the nineteenth century, in Baltimore, where I was born
wealthy men like Johns Hopkins, George Peabody and
Enoch Pratt just to name a few did great things with their wealth.
Great charitable organizations were funded by the wealthy.

In the twentieth century socialism took root among the poor
as the progressives (make that communists) used jealousy
and envy to set the poor against the rich.
They still do it with great success in the democrat party.

Now gaining wealth is looked upon with suspicion and envy.
Seldom do you now hear, Good for him! He MADE IT in
America.

Ironically, Obama's base do NOT begrudge the wealthy
democrat leaders their wealth.

As Christians, any wealth we attain must be kept in perspective.
Abraham was wealthy, as was David, as was Joseph of Arimethea.
As long as we acknowledge the source of our success,
and place all of our worldly gains at His disposal,
wealth is a blessing from God.

Envy and jealousy are sins. Electing thieves who rob some
people to give to you, is ALSO a sin.
"Thou shalt not steal." Even if you have someone else do your
stealing for you.
