On Sunday Oct. 16, 2011, Dan Weldon the race driver was killed in a major accident at the Las Vegas Speedway.  He was a very talented driver and well liked by race fans and all the drivers, owners, and crew members in the racing fraternity.

 

The older I get, the less I believe in coincidences, especially when it comes to major news stories.  Dan was 33 years old and was driving car #77 Sunday.  The race was stopped after the accident.  After Weldon's death was announced, the day ended with all the remaining cars (& drivers) lined up (19 I believe), started, and then taking a 5-lap tribute to Weldon.  The scoring pylon was cleared with the number 77 at the top as the lone item lit up.
