Thanks Gino, for your insights. Yes, I used to find the OT boring and unrelatable too but as I matured over the years I realised a lot of it is about foreshadowing Christ's sacrifice and that all scripture is profitable for edification. I like your reference to Psalm 119:8 and agree that there is so much to learn and consider. I consider the Israelites wandering in the wilderness for 40 years, Jesus being tested in the wilderness for 40 days, as relevant to how I lead my life. Will I be able to pass the manifold trials and temptations in the wilderness of this life, or fall like many of the Israelites did? I also consider how King Saul messed up by not waiting that few more moments for Samuel to arrive to perform the sacrifices - I might easily have made the same mistake as Saul did. I have not really mulled about what David was thinking through as he penned the Psalms; it is certainly an interesting perspective to consider. But I suspect a lot of what David wrote was somehow revealed to him supernaturally by God, as the more I read the Psalms the more I realise their prophetic significance. Many passages in the Psalms could be about David as king, David crying out to God for help, or praising God, but I see a lot of Christ the true King's voice in the Psalms. Some passages are specifically about Christ and not David, for instance in Psalm 16:10 "For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption". (But some passages seem to be only about David and not Christ, eg. Psalm 40:12 "mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up." Even the ordering/numbering of the Psalms seem to be supernatural if you consider the mirror pattern to be valid. I also see that at least certain Psalms seem to echo strongly other Biblibal passages, even those Biblical books written after David's time. For instance, Psalm 103 and 107 remind me of Isaiah 40-47. Psalm 30 reminds me of the Book of Esther. Years ago, I wrote about how Psalm 121-129 seem to be correlated to Revelation 12:1-9. I think there is a lot for us to discover, reflect upon and chew through. God Bless you on this journey!
