What I want to present here is why I believe Daniel waited a total of 24 days, and not just the 21 days of his fast.
By Daniel 10, Daniel is an old man. His heart's longing is to go home. He has been waiting for 70 years.
Yet, he is still in Babylon. I believe by this time it is appearing to Daniel that the count of Jeremiah's prophecied 70 years has ended. Compare the year of king Cyrus in 10:1 with Ezra 1:1. It seems to me that some of the children of Israel are already returning to the land, but not Daniel.
It strikes me that what Daniel is experiencing is similar to what Moses experienced. After such a long wait, they are not going to be able to make it into the promised land.
In the book of Daniel, there is no mention that he was ever able to go back. In 12:13, it seems he is being told to finish out his lifetime in Babylon, but know that at the resurrection, he will be back living in the land of promise.
So, Daniel is at a loss in chapter 10. Perhaps King Cyrus just refused Daniel permission to leave his place of resonsibility in Babylon in order to go back to Israel. Daniel is grieving.
I believe Daniel started his fast on the 1st day of the 1st month of Israel's calendar, and finished it on what would have been the last day of Unleavened Bread, had he been back home. In his seeking God, Daniel is clinging to God's ways in the midst of a totally pagan culture, and so Daniel is also thinking in terms of the calendar God gave Israel.
Can you relate?
But after the 21 days of fasting, Daniel felt like he was not heard, at least in terms of God providing him with some understanding of why Daniel was not able to return. I speculate that the 22nd, 23rd and 24th days of waiting were experience as a type of personal darkness for Daniel.I see these three days of darkness frequently in scripture, where they are then followed by some kind of revelation or experience with God, at least for God's people.
There was the 9th plague in Egypt, after which God revealed Himself to Moses concerning when they were to start their first month, and revealing to him about Passover (Jesus).
There were the three days of personal darkness the disciples experienced after Jesus' death and before Jesus revealed Himself to them after.
There were Paul's three days of blind darkness before a man of God performed a miracle of restoring his sight.
I am thinking Daniel also experienced a type of three days of darkness before Jesus revealed Himself to him.
Why do I emphasize this? Because I believe that on November 23rd, the world will likely experience a type of darkness, likely related to the taking down of technologies. For the body of Christ, we will still be down here for three calendar days of that darkness, until we go home on November 25th. Our three days of living in a world experiencing darkness (starting on November 23rd, or 9-23 as pointed to by dark messaging as some watchers have noticed) lines up with the final three days of darkness that Daniel experienced in his 24 days of waiting until finally he was face to face with Jesus. However, like during the 9th Plague of Egypt when the children of Israel had light in their dwellings, I believe the body of Christ will also receive some kind of revelation from God that, like the children of Israel at Mount Sinai, we are told to get ready for on the third day God is coming down for us.
Isaiah 60:2 says, "darkness will cover the earth and deep darkness the peoples; but the LORD will rise upon you and His glory will appear upon you."
So, do not be surprised if technology goes down on November 23rd. It will be part of God's heads-up to us that we are about to go home. I observe that on the 15th day of the 3rd month (the full moon), Moses, in Exodus 19, was called up to God and told to go right back down and inform the people that God is coming down to them on the third day, or the day after tomorrow. I am wondering if some in the body of Christ, throughout the world, will also received some kind of revelation from God on the 15th day (Nov 23rd - the full moon) to let everyone in the body of Christ know that Jesus is about to come and get us on the third day, November 25th.
