The priceless face of Our Saviour Jesus Christ
1 Corinthians 13.12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.
At this time of high watching for the Rapture, possibly as never before, a sign appears that we could easily overlook. A painting by Lenardo da Vinci, Salvator Mundi (Saviour of the World) sells for a record price for any work of art, way beyond the previous record. This has been widely reported, including in our local paper the Canberra Times. The article opens with the following, and the direct link to the full article is below. I recommend reading the article and reflecting on the priceless face of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the World!
Leonardo da Vinci's Salvator Mundi, considered either the most important old master work to be auctioned in a generation or a damaged painting hyped by savvy marketing, sold on Wednesday night for $US450.3 million ($592 million Australian) with fees, a record for any work of art sold at auction. It far surpassed the sale of Picasso's Women of Algiers, which fetched $US179.4 million at Christie's in May 2015.
The painting is very poignant, but what is important is this. You can buy a lot of houses, cars and luxuries for $450 million US, but someone or an organisation has chosen to spend this exorbitant amount of money to be able to look at an Artist’s impression of the face of Jesus Christ, dating from around 1500!! This gives us hope! We live in a world lost in the lure of the world and all it offers, but there is a love that shines forth from the face of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ that transcends all other loves.
Now we see Him by faith, but the Rapture will take us in a twinkling of an eye into His presence, and we shall see Him face to face!! Just a painting maybe, but one more sign amongst many that He is coming very soon!! Maranatha!!
