David the reason why this discussion matters is - what you are expecting as the next event will influence what you are prepared for. In our time it is very possible that the Rapture could occur at any moment. So we must be ready at all times whether we die first or the Lord comes to take us out. The Pharisees were expecting their Messiah to come as a conquering King to rescue them and because they failed to understand the full counsel of God - they did not recognize Jesus and missed the correct event for their time. Same applies to us in our time. The next event, should we still be living, is Jesus, The Bridegroom, coming for His bride and we must be ready. The Second Coming is an event which follows after The Great Tribulation when Jesus returns as King and Conqueror. So you see, two different events and two different appearances of Jesus. The Pharisees are a clear example to us to understand and to be ready in our time for the specific events that will take place according to God's plan.
