Actually, the sun would  shine perfectly through this memorial not only on November 11th, but also on Febuary 3rd or 4th!!
Its 43 days from Nov 11th to the winter  solstice Dec 23...
Fast Fwd 43 days the Sun would be in the exact same position in the sky on Febuary 3rd or 4th !!!   :)
Its about astronomy  :)
