Gino,Those were words from Tozer, and he made very clear the role the Word of God, (Scripture) plays in revealing Truth."The great need of the hour among persons spiritually hungry is twofold: First, to know the Scriptures, apart from which no saving truth will be vouchsafed (Granted or disclosed) by our Lord; the Second, to be enlightened by the Spirit, apart from whom the Scriptures will not be understood."I added the definition of vouchsafed in parenthesis, as this is not a common word in use today. Every error in the religion of Christianity stems from a man centered mental interpretation of Scripture. Most Churches have made salvation a rational decision rather than a conviction of the heart. This is the great error of fundamentalism. In the desire to swell the ranks of the institution of the church, The Gospel is now preached as a "Passive acceptance" rather than an "act of receiving" (Tozer's words, not mine). The following video is often criticized by the fundamentalists, But rings so true in the modern churches. As with all error, it is subtle, yet oh so obvious when it comes to light. This message will be either received or resisted by the person watching it. They are hard words. Many who watch this will even find themselves resisting the words spoken of and will likely point to many a biblical doctrine to reject it. Not because their doctrine is wrong, but because the heart is wrong. This the difference between mentally knowing about God, and having understanding and intimate knowledge of God. To understand some one, we need to stand under them. Man's mind wants to place God in a box that is their own intellect, thus they make themselves bigger than God, so as to contain Him.When Paul preached the Gospel, He was giving the seed, which is the Mental knowledge of Scriptures (The Word). Appollus Watered that seed, Through the Holy Spirit, But always, always, always, God is the one that creates the Miracle of life. In Modern fundamentalism, The growth is believed to come by increasing ones knowledge of the Bible, Thus the more learned one is, the more saintly they are considered. Is this not the reason why God always uses the simple to confound the wise?Read the following words of Paul, and see if they do not make more sense with the above in mind. And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. 2 For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, 4 and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. (1 Cor. 2:1-5)Unfortunately, many Lost souls in the church have faith in the wisdom of men, rather than the power of God. Their heart remains hard ground, and their leaders only feed them more "wisdom of man" with no water. For too long, this message I was given gets brushed aside, and resisted by those hearing it. Ultimately, this is nothing more than a form of idolatry, Man declaring himself (intellect) God.Judgment is coming on the church first, and those who do not have a repentant heart will be separated, and those shepherds who have led them will be cast down!I had to leave the fundamentalist churches before I began to grow in Christ Jesus. Not that their doctrines were wrong, but they were just that doctrines on paper, rather than a living intimate knowledge and understanding of God. As an example, the Trinity as mentioned above, In that the Word is the seed, The Water is the Holy Spirit, and God the Father is the source of Growth, and life. If the seed is unwatered, and does not grow, then you are just worshipping an image of Jesus. As Revelation states of this beast, "The one who was, Is not now, and is about to rise." While the Seed which is watered and allowed to Grow, is the Jesus who "was, and is, and is to come"...The living Word of God.God Bless.P.S. as I Proof read this, I realized that what was written is only touching the surface of this whole issue. Jesus had a parable where he discussed the seed dying before life could begin. As much as I could explain this all reasonably here, Ultimately these words can only be grasped by the Holy Spirit. To the mind of man these words are gibberish, to those led by the Spirit they make perfect sense.
