"A PILGRIM PASSING THROUGH"
A PILGRIM PASSING THROUGH
I have a passport to a country, where all the people there are blessed.
It’s a Kingdom that’s eternal, where the weary find their rest.
I’m pressing through and moving on, to where the landscape never fades.
I am searching for a City, which has foundations that are laid.
I’m like a soldier who’s in training, and when my orders come along,
When I hear the trumpet blowing, my camp is moving on.
The way has been a narrow path; the lamp has helped me see.
There are many of my brethren who have gone ahead of me.
His Word gives me direction; it is the map that guides my way.
It helps to keep me on my course, if I should go astray.
I am a stranger in a foreign land; many tests have come my way.
In this environment, my proving ground, I am learning to obey.
The journey can be difficult in the places where I walk.
But even in the wilderness, I’ve found there’s water in the Rock.
Manna falls from heaven, and it fills my hungry heart.
And there is corn upon the mountain top, a handful, set apart.
I am gathering eternal things, from the places where I roam.
This dwelling isn’t permanent; it’s just my temporary home.
While the outer man is perishing, and the world is growing dim,
I am a traveler with a compass, that continually points to Him.
Although I am encumbered, within this earthly tent,
Wherever He would lead and guide, I am His witness, sent.
The Mount of Zion calls to me, I have known it from the start.
Watching for that Blessed Hope, I am ready to depart.
I lift my head up heavenward, toward a City in the skies.
Forgetting that which lies behind, I reach to win the prize.
I am just a pilgrim passing through, just visiting here awhile.
For that which lies ahead of me, I will walk the extra mile.
