Dear John and Doves:
Richardson skips over an inconvenient truth in his article. When the Magog alliance moves -- reluctantly -- against the mountains of Israel, it is to seek a plunder and capture a spoil. How likely will it be that, at the end of the final seven years, when the world is undergoing a period of tribulation so severe that, were it not curtailed, no flesh would be saved .... that at that point Gog/Magog would decide to go plundering?
Magog moves when Israel is a peace, which could be a false and temporary peace after a failed Psalm 83 coalition attack. If God confirms the Abrahamic land covenant by destroying all the squatters, that would certainly be conducive to at least a temporary cease-fire.
Also, "Gog" is usually sought as some man, but it could be (and I believe it is) that Gog is a fallen spiritual being. Read Daniel 10 and you will see a "chief prince" who is a spiritual entity.
Best,
Steve
