"Deep study on the book of life- KML"
KML- I borrowed from your posting and copied your list of verses on the book of life for an e-mail discussion I was having with someone else. While writing it, I was surprised at how many new things I was able to see because all the verses were typed out. After sending imy e-mail, I thought maybe someone would be interested in this here at 5 doves. So thank you for the work you did that blessed me so in my search of the scriptures.
There are 8/8 mentions of "BOOK OF LIFE" mentioned in the King James Bible.
1. Philippians 4:3 KJV
Whose names are written in the book of life.
2. Revelation 3:5 KJV
He that overcometh , the same shall be clothed in white rainment; and I' will not blot out his name out of the book of life, BUT I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
3. ( ref also Rev 13:8 KJV)
4. Revelation 17:8 KJV
and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were NOT written in the book of life from the foundations of the world, WHEN [THEY] behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
5.Revelation 20:12 KJV
And I saw THE DEAD, small and great, stand before God; and THE BOOK(S) WERE OPENED(:) AND (ANOTHER BOOK) WAS OPENED, WHICH IS THE BOOK OF LIFE: and THE DEAD WERE JUDGED OUT OF THOSE THINGS WHICH WERE WRITTEN IN THE BOOK(S), ACCORDING TO THEIR WORKS.
6. Revelation 20:15 KJV
And whosoever was NOT [FOUND] WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF LIFE was cast into the lake of FIRE.
7.Revelation 21:27 KJV
And there shall in NO wise enter into (it) any (thing) that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but THEY which are written in the Lamb's book of life.
8. REVELATION 2219 KJV
AND [IF] "ANY MAN" SHALL TAKE AWAY "FROM THE WORDS" OF THE BOOK OF [THIS] PROPHECY, GOD SHALL TAKE AWAY HIS PART(OUT) OF THE BOOK OF LIFE, AND (OUT) OF THE HOLY CITY, AND FROM THE THINGS WHICH ARE WRITTEN IN (THIS) BOOK.
There are interesting thoughts here:
1. Rev. 17 whose names were NOT written in the book of life from the foundations of the world
- names were recorded here even before Adam
2. Rev. 22:19 AND [IF] "ANY MAN" SHALL TAKE AWAY "FROM THE WORDS" OF THE BOOK OF [THIS] PROPHECY, GOD SHALL TAKE AWAY HIS PART(OUT) OF THE BOOK OF LIFE, AND (OUT) OF THE HOLY CITY, AND FROM THE THINGS WHICH ARE WRITTEN IN (THIS) BOOK.
- So is salvation by grace? - yes Is salvation based on Christ's finished work at the cross? yes Did the Father say it was enough - yes? Where in scripture does it tell us that if we add to something to what God said in the scriptures, we can loose our born again experience? One of these verses? It can't be of any private interpretation, so it has to be recorded else where as well or something is missing in the interpretation. And" what about this book" that makes it so an individuals part can be taken out from it. A "part" with "what?" Well, you see what part of the loss is, they will not be able to enter the Holy City. It does not say they can not enter Heaven, it is speaking of the Holy City which will be where God dwells among his chosen people and governing all of His creation. IT reminds me of John 3.3,5 where we have differing requirements to see verses entering the kingdom. Nicodemus knew about the earthly kingdom, but when Christ came presenting the heavenly one(literal) and that you had to be born of the spirit to be able to see or enter it, Nicodemus wanted to know," How in the world is that supposed to happen? I have never heard of anything like this before. "
- Then this book of life can not have anything to do with eternal life, for everyone has eternal life whether your name is written in this book or not. Just like the tree of life cannot have anything to do with eternal life, for everyone will spend eternity alive, somewhere. So the book and the tree must have something to do with events after the finished work of the cross. It must have something to do with a salvation that wasn't mentioned in the O.T. for Heb. 2:3 says "How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; This message is linked not to salvation through the death of a substitute lamb which all rabbis knew of, but something else. What is the so great salvation? Eph. 1;9 f "Having made known unto us the mystery of his will....That in the dispensation of the fullness of times, he might gather together in one [sum up] all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth....In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will;
What is the inheritance about, don't you see a similarity to what Abraham was promised in Gen. 22:17,18 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply they seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in they seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
At the fullness of time, Christ is going to gather all things in Christ, both in heaven and on earth
Abraham was told that his offspring would be as the stars [heavenly] and the sand [earthly]...dual kingdoms from which they would possess the gate [ where the ruling of a city was done from in the O.T.) of his enemies. For the sole purpose of the earth being blessed.
And then the inheritance in Rom. 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs WITH Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. This is contingent. Does this have anything to do with Christ's finished work on the cross. No. But it does have faithfulness in view which comes after you have been made alive to the Father through Christ's work. This faithfulness is tied to glorification. What happens to the non faithful- non glorification? I mean this isn't, "I have tasted and seen that the Lord is good and I am turning my back on him...." it is simply not going through the growing process which always involves suffering with him. Not being faithful to the calling in which we have been called either through ignorance or because of lack of motivation.
It is further explained in Phil 2:12-16 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, Work Out Your Own Salvation with Fear and Trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do for his good pleasure....That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God.... Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither labored in vain.
Here we have a salvation you can work at that comes when you are in a position to receive and act on God putting his will in your heart....so that you can become a son of God. Not child like in the last verse which had a contingency on it. We are past the contingency and must assume that we are talking to those that have suffered with Christ, there by working out their salvation which brings them into a position of being a son and this is being called the "word of life" and it has to do with an inheritance and being joint-heirs with Christ.
Since Christ's finished work on the cross is a past tense salvation with reaches into the future, it can't have anything to do with a salvation that involves present day work. What does this present work involve Heb. 3:14 "For we are made partakers of Christ IF we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end: 6:19 "Which hope we have as and anchor of the soul..." 1 Peter 1; 4, 5, 9,10 "To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you Who are kept guarded by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.. Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you.
So the salvation of the soul (not spirit) is linked to hope, an inheritance incorruptible, a salvation ready to be revealed, something that is kept guarded by the power of God, the end of your faith, something not known of in the O.T. And if we take it back up into previous verses...something that is contingent, something that involves faithfulness, something that involves suffering with Christ.
Sorry....I just started going and....this is what happens. It is exciting to chase through the scriptures, to see pieces falling together. But I realize they are not your pieces as of yet, so you are probably not as excited as I am. :) Food for thought. Lots of pondering.
