"David Blackman- Philadelphia Church"
David,
We are so close to our departure rapture date that we have a tendency to see scriptures in the light of here and now instead of realizing that these verses were written almost 2000 years ago and have been speaking to all Christians since that time. The angel of the church is being spoken to and Christ defines these angels as one of the seven stars that resides in his right hand pictured in Rev. 1:20. This angel is responsible for watching over not only the literal church in which it was written too, but also the Christians that find themselves with the same philosophy or faith ideas as, in this case, the Philadelphia church. From that sense, looking at the hour of temptation that is to come upon all the earth, to try them that dwell on the earth, is not referring to just a few years at the end of the church age or the 7 years after called the tribulation, but the on going saga of Christian life, where we find ourselves at different points in our life, brought to the point of temptation....manipulating things because of the cares of the world or do I strive to live in God's peace,....the fame and notoriety of our peers, or cultivating an intimate relationship with the Father....a moments satisfaction or patience to endure.... Will we be defeated by our old nature, the world, or satan?
The Philadelphia Church is said to have an open door but only a little strength. Because of their Love for Christ....he said he would see that their strength was enough by delivering them from the hour of temptation. We try to personalize it just for us and say that it is a one time salvation from the hour of temptation at a specific time here on earth. Should we not be looking at it as the promise that if we Love Him, he will deliver us from the snares that the devil is setting up so that we do not loose what is ours at the judgment seat of Christ when we are declared overcomers, not the overcome?
