"RE: Tyler Cole: 11.22.13: 2nd reply"

Tyler,
Thank you for the follow-up.
You had mentioned:
"All of this illustrates that the spirit of man and the soul of man are different!"

I have, also, always believed that man is body, soul, and spirit.
I Thessalonians 5:23 ¶ And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground (body), and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life (spirit); and man became a living soul.

As to the other thing that you mentioned:
"'His (man’s) spirit existed before the foundation of the world and is sent to live in him when he is born again.'
God knew us before the foundation of the world.  How is this possible, because man’s spirit is eternal?"

When we are born again, there is a newly created spirit:
II Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Not an old spirit, from the foundation of the world, but a newly created spirit:
Galatians 6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.

And that is the new man, that newly created spirit:
Ephesians 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

The LORD can make a new spirit:
Ezekiel 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

The LORD can make new things, and in Revelation 21: 5, the LORD even says:
"And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new."
