"Mount Sinai, Part1"
Mount Sinai, Part1
Hello John and Doves,
Israel's exodus from Egypt, their journey under Mount Sinai, and
the time they spent under the mountain before Moses first
brought the tablets of the law into the camp, correspond exactly
to the calculation of the day of the feast of Pentecost from the
Scriptures. The feast of Pentecost is therefore connected in the
Scriptures with the journey of Israel and with the events that
unfolded on Mount Sinai. That this is a type of Pentecost is
clearly confirmed by the fact that the Israelites, after leaving
Egypt on the 15th of Nisan, arrived at the foot of Mount Sinai
on exactly the same day that we found out in the first part of
the calculation of the day of Pentecost from Scripture, i.e.,
the 15th of Sivan, it is written in Ex 19:1-2. They
arrived at Mount Sinai therefore exactly on the 15th of Sivan.
For two months the Jews journeyed from Egypt to Mount Sinai. Why
did God lead them through the pillar of cloud and fire for
exactly two months? I believe that this is a foreshadowing of
the two thousand years of the church’s journey. In the second
part of the calculation of the day of Pentecost, 50 days are
counted from the 15th of Sivan. We know from Scripture that the
events on Mount Sinai from the beginning to the first return of
Moses from the mountain to the camp also lasted 50 days. God’s
negotiation on Mount Sinai were accompanied by supernatural
manifestations. Ex 19:10,11,16,19: “10The Lord said to Moses,
“Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. Let
them wash their clothes 11and be ready for the third day, for on
the third day the Lord will come down on Mount Sinai in the
sight of all the people. 16On the third day, when morning came,
there were thunders and lightnings and a thick cloud on the
mountain, and a very loud sound of a ram’s horn. All the people
in the camp trembled. 19As the sound of the ram’s horn grew
louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him with a loud
voice.” Here were the first three days on Mount Sinai.
Ex 24:15-18: “Moses went up the mountain, and the cloud covered
the mountain. 16The glory of the Lord settled on Mount Sinai,
and the cloud covered it for six days. On the seventh day the
Lord called to Moses from the cloud. 17The glory of the Lord
appeared to the Israelites like consuming fire on the top of the
mountain. 18Moses entered the cloud and went up the mountain.
Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.” Now
another seven days and then forty days unfold on Mount Sinai. So
we have a total of 3 + 7 + 40 days. So on the fiftieth day Moses
went down to the camp.
