You're probably correct, at this time.

I grew up catholic, and when I was a boy, we didn't eat meat on Fridays throughout the year.

That is where the traditions of fish Fridays in restaurants and schools came from.

After vatican II, things began to change, like Latin to English in the mass (except for the consecration rite, i.e. hoc est corpus meum), not sure about nowadays, though.

Additionally, no meat on Fridays was reduced from the perennial weekly requirement, to only Fridays during lent (7, counting good Friday).

Also, when I was boy, prior to vatican II, we could not eat from midnight before having communion on Sunday morning, and I think I remember being told not even drink water, either.

The catholic church realizes that the practice of priestly celibacy, has been, and still could be, debated.

However, they will not debate the role of gender, i.e. no debate regarding female priests.

To them, one is a discipline, while the other is dogma.
