Genesis 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

There is another teaching about Genesis 6, that I've heard brought up a number of times since I've been saved.

Instead of the general teaching that the sons of God were celestial beings, which took the daughters of men, causing them to bear giants.

That other teaching has the sons of God as the "godly line of Seth".

I have a question regarding that view.

After Adam fell, everyone was born lost, with Adam's fallen nature.

How would a supposed "godly line of Seth" become sons of God before the gospel?

I Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

  11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

  12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

  23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Galatians 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

I John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

No, the male descendants of Seth, didn't become sons of God by being godly!

That would be a heretical, works-based teaching.
