We are all familiar with these verses as spoken by our Lord as it relates to our Rapture.
"But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be." Matt. 24:37
So that we would understand what the days of Noah were like, Jesus explained them to us. He said:"For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be." Matt. 24:38,39
Based on these verses many believers feel that life will be completely normal right up to the very second of the Rapture. My feeling is that may not be exactly right and here is why.
First, I think the Bible is clear that they were carrying on as usual (completely normal) “until the day”. What day? The day that Noah entered the ark. Ahhh, but after that....
After that there is a gap of seven days after God shut the door on the ark before the flood started. (Seven days - seven years of the tribulation? Hmmm.......?). So, they were marrying and giving in marriage until the day Noah entered the ark, but not after that. Now, after the door has been shut, there are seven days when things are changing on the earth.
Genesis 7:4 says, “For yet seven days“ (after I have shut the door) “and I will then cause it to rain upon the earth 40 days and nights ...”). So, for seven days, as my grandfather used to say, a storm’s a brewing. Notice what Jesus says about these seven days - the days after the door was shut - but before the floods came. Matthew 24:39 “...and did not know until the flood came”. So, there is something they don’t know or understand for seven days after God shut the ark door until the floods came. Hmmmm.......?
I can only imagine the darkening of the sky, the cloud buildup, the winds beginning to howl, the lightning slowly spooling up. Have you ever been caught outside or perhaps driving when a really big storm was a brewing? And that’s just the atmosphere. The Bible also says that the fountains of the deep were broken up. I can also imagine the ground rumbling and shaking from tremors as the pressure built up.
“And they did not know until the floods came!” For seven days they didn’t know something was up. For seven days things were not entirely normal. After all, the Bible tells us the birth pangs will intensify as we get closer, so how can that be normal. But after the floods came, then they knew. After all, Noah had been preaching to them for years and years and years about this very thing.
So, no, I don’t think life has to be 100% normal for our great redemption to occur.
