"Why I Love Mother's
Day!"
In 1968 I was a freshman at Indiana University in Bloomington,
Indiana. The Vietnam war was raging, and a number of
students had set up a barricade around Ballantine Hall in
protest. One morning I had a class
there. I arrived at the barricade, and found they
would not allow me to go into the building. I would
not be deterred, so I broke through the barricade and went up to
the front door of Ballantine Hall.
As I was about to open the door and go in the building, a
student at the barricade angrily yelled at me, "You
mother!" I am so grateful to him because from that
time onward I began celebrating Mother's Day! For
over 50 years I have been celebrating Mother's Day
now! Through the years I have tried to find that
gentleman to thank him, but I have been unable to locate him!
But I have a grateful heart, and I wish both myself and all of
you mothers out there a very special and happy Mother's Day!
Have a great weekend and that Special Day!
