When Gabriel gave the 70 weeks prophecy from the LORD to Daniel,he also mentioned the coming future destruction of Jerusalem and the temple by Titus:
Daniel 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
Since the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple came close to 40 years after the crucifixion, how does that fit in the 70 weeks of years? So, is the entire second half of line 26 not counted in the 70 weeks of years?Wouldn't that be like a stop watch was clicked at the ":", after the first part of line 26,and only then clicked again, to restart, at the beginning of line 27?I think I heard something like that a number of years ago,but what in the passage, shows that the prophetic clock stops at the ":"?Or is that determined by first having a doctrinal view of the entire passage, but since the time interval between the crucifixion and the destruction of the temple by Titus, doesn't fit into the doctrinal view one has, then something has to explain it away, and the prophetic stopwatch on the ":", is as good as any, especially since there has been a very long period time already, after the destruction of the temple, and then if line 26 is believed to only be fulfilled by the antichrist at the beginning of tribulation, some kind of prophetic stopwatch would then had to have been clicked to pause the prophecy. Is that what most folks believe about this passage?
